The Dunas de Natal State Park is the first regulated Conservation Unit in the state of RN, linked to the National System of Conservation Units, in the category of Integral Protection, twenty-three years after its regulation. Located in Natal, the park is in an urban area and is surrounded by two Special Areas of Social Interest, an Area of Special Tourist and Landscape Interest, military areas and, as a result, lives with a range of conflicts arising from the association between an Integral Protection Conservation Unit and an urban area. The main aim of this research is to "analyze the conflicts arising from the extemporaneous linking of "Park" type Conservation Units, located in urban areas, to the National System of Conservation Units - SNUC, based on the case of the Natal/RN Dunes Park". To this end, three specific objectives were contemplated: 1) To contextualize the creation of Conservation Units in Brazil, since before the SNUC was enacted, making an association with the urban planning instruments available in both periods (before and after the SNUC); 2) To characterize the creation of the Natal Dunes Park in relation to the insertion of RN in the development policy of tourist megaprojects for the Northeast Region; and, 3) To analyze the suitability of the Natal Dunes State Park for the category of Integral Protection, in the light of the National System of Conservation Units. This is a qualitative study, considered to be the most appropriate way to respond to the problem, which is interdisciplinary. A case study was defined as a strategy; in the case of this research, Parque das Dunas was characterized as a single critical case, defined by its centrality in relation to the research problem. Data collection was based on secondary data, made up of official documents (Management Plan, Operation Plan, Procedures Manual, among others identified along the way), minutes of meetings of the UC Management Council, Natal Master Plans, and related documents, which were analyzed using Content Analysis, respecting the stages of pre-analysis, exploration of the material and treatment of the results, defined by Bardin. Support was sought in the literature dealing with regulatory instruments for Conservation Units and urban planning. The results obtained point to the need to re-evaluate the legislation governing Conservation Units, especially at state and municipal level, to the need for possible adjustments or requalification of the UCs that were extemporaneously linked to the SNUC, as well as a review of the Parque das Dunas Management Plan.

The development of tourism activities in communities is based on participation and involvement in the decision-making and planning process, a factor that should be observed through residents' attitudes in various situations arising from tourism. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the interrelations among some factors that can affect residents' support for the development of community-based tourism in indigenous communities. To conduct the investigation, it was necessary to seek a theoretical foundation through Social Exchange Theory (SET), which deals with cognitive perspectives related to rationality, as it is associated with a set of exchanges based on perceived rewards and costs in the relationship between residents and support for the activity (Strzelecka et al., 2017). Additionally, a theoretical model capable of measuring resident empowerment through the Tourism Empowerment Scale – RETS by Boley and McGehee (2014) was used as a theoretical basis. To analyze the relationships between dimensions, a theoretical model based on the constructs of Community Involvement, Social Empowerment, Psychological Empowerment, Political Empowerment, Positive Impacts, Negative Impacts, and Residents' Support will be proposed, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The research was characterized as descriptive and quantitative, of the cross-sectional survey type, through the hypothetical-deductive method. The research sample was probabilistically selected using simple random sampling through the random selection of residences. Data collection was carried out through the application of questionnaires with closed-ended questions, using the Google Forms tool, with questions based on the Likert scale, on an 11-point metric scale, from which 301 responses were collected in-person. Data were collected between September and November 2023. The data were processed using Excel software and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 26.0) and AMOS 23.0 software. The main results of the research indicate a positive and direct influence between community involvement and political, social, and psychological empowerment, as well as a positive and direct influence between social and psychological empowerment and residents' support. However, there was no significant influence between political empowerment and residents' support. Negative impacts showed a negative and inversely proportional influence on support, while positive impacts had a positive and direct influence on residents' support.

Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is a form of tourism management generally developed in the territory of indigenous peoples and traditional communities under the principles of self-management, social equity, solidarity, cooperation and interculturality. The majority participation of women in TBC initiatives is widely recognized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The role of women in TBC initiatives, however, does not lead to an automatic process of female empowerment and gender equality. In this sense, the study aims to analyze the role of women in the development of Community-Based Tourism in the Catu dos Eleotérios indigenous community, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and its possible effects on female empowerment and indigenous social dynamics. As specific objectives, the work aims to: reveal the indigenous social dynamics and the sexual division of labor in the Catu dos Eleotérios community; identify the results generated by Community-Based Tourism and the challenges for its development, from the perspective of catuzeira women; and verify whether Community-Based Tourism triggered processes of female empowerment and changes in the social position of women in the indigenous community. The research used the ethnographic method as inspiration, with the application of participant observation techniques and semi-structured interviews, making it possible to explore the perspectives, experiences and meanings attributed by women to their involvement in CBT. As a result, there is an initial process of female empowerment of catuzeira women in the psychological, social, economic and political dimensions. In the psychological dimension, the increase in self-esteem, active participation, self-confidence and greater autonomy of indigenous women is notable. In the social dimension, women are positioned more independently, gaining visibility, speaking and decision-making power, strengthening the social position of women within the community. In the economic dimension, women now have an alternative source of income through tourism, providing greater financial autonomy and influence in family dynamics, with prominent roles as entrepreneurs and artisans. With regard to political empowerment, women began to participate more in community decisions and represent the community in external organizations, however, they still do not exercise leadership roles. Despite advances, some challenges persist regarding gender inequality, such as the overload of women in domestic activities and machismo based on patriarchal structures, obstacles rooted in the social structure of the community, which still need to be overcome.

Vila de Ponta Negra is the original nucleus of the Ponta Negra district, located in the city of Natal/RN, and until the 1980s it was essentially made up of farmers and fishermen. From this period onwards, with the tourist refunctionalization of the district, Vila has been undergoing changes in terms of its use and occupation. There has been the emergence of new commercial facilities, services, and the search for housing by new residents with a higher income standard, making it an area coveted by the real estate market. The onset of a verticalization process in the border areas of Vila began in 2000 and was later followed by the spread of horizontal gated communities. Tourist urbanization (Mullins, 1991) has been intensifying, causing changes in Vila’s form and content (Santos, 2002). The objective of this work is to analyze the process of residential segregation resulting from the dynamism of the real estate market in Vila de Ponta Negra, following the expansion of tourist activity. The work is based on a theoretical-methodological foundation guided by the Harvey-Lefebvrian perspective to discuss the social reality in Vila de Ponta Negra. The research is of a quantitative and qualitative nature and characterized in an exploratory-descriptive manner, mainly because it sought to provide a general overview of the segregation processes in the study area. After bibliographic and documentary research, a field survey was conducted, with on-site surveys of real estate investments and interviews with community, public sector and construction industry representatives, in addition to photographic records. It is concluded that residential segregation has become increasingly evident given that tourist urbanization has valued Vila and attracted the real estate market to build housing for a population with greater purchasing power. The self-segregation evidenced by the gated communities (horizontal and vertical) was the typology that grew the most over the last few years. These housing modalities fostered the process of fragmentation of urban land through their walls, which hindered free circulation within Vila. Community life also fragments and frays as tourist urbanization advances in the main tourist district of Natal.

The Cariri Paraibano region, marked by the Caatinga landscape framed by flagstones, has seen an increase in tourist activity in recent years, driven, among many factors, by geomorphological and archaeological attributes, cinematographic productions, crafts and gastronomy. Tourism presents itself, at least within the scope of discourse, as an important vector for local development and improving the quality of life of communities. In 2017, Sebrae/PB launched the “Rota dos Lajedos” project, to promote activities such as geotourism, ecotourism and experiences within communities. However, tourism development requires an inclusive approach that involves the active participation of local communities in decision-making. In this area, there is a form of tourism, commonly known as Community-Based Tourism (TBC), which values participatory management and the protagonism of local subjects as central agents in the tourism development processes in their respective territories. Thus, the research has the general objective of analyzing how the rural communities of Marinho and Bravo, located in Cariri Paraibano, are socially organized and integrated into the tourism production chain, revealing the factors that explain their different forms of community organization and proximity to the development of Community-Based Tourism. The research is characterized as exploratory, with a qualitative analysis approach. The information was collected in fieldwork in the two target communities of the study, using two research techniques: participant observation and semi- structured interviews with community members and leaders and external agents involved with local tourism. The results demonstrate that the presence of certain social organizers in communities led to different forms of management and involvement with local tourism. Furthermore, it was observed that external actions, such as partnerships and connections with different projects and experiences, promoted the development of local tourism, becoming a differentiating factor for community engagement.

The present study aims to analyze the contribution of artisans residing in the territory of the UNESCO World Geopark Araripe, integrating the municipalities of Nova Olinda, Santana do Cariri, Crato, Juazeiro do Norte, Barbalha and Missão Velha, given the artisanal production of geoproducts, specifically paleontological representation. This work is based on the valorization of local know-how in all its multidisciplinary nature, taking into account the growth of tourist activity in the region and the inclusion of artisans in this process. The research adopts a qualitative approach, with a descriptive method, and uses a participatory research study to analyze the geoproducts produced by these artisans, through field visits to stores and production ateliers. To this end, data collection takes place through the application of a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with artisans, aiming for a greater understanding of the reasons that led to the development of geoproducts, inspirations and their perspectives in relation to strengthening tourism, culture and heritage preservation natural resources present in the region. The geoproducts are aimed at tourist sales aiming to represent local geodiversity. To better understand tourism and the artisan's relationship with tourist activity, an exploratory bibliographic review was carried out. In short, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of the importance of geoproducts in strengthening tourism, highlighting the appreciation of natural heritage and other local wealth, promoting interaction between tourists and the local community.

Tourism is a complex activity whose commercial approach encourages destinations to invest in different strategies in order to stand out from the competitive market. One of these strategies is the formulation of destination brands, which communicate directly with the local tourist public. The branding manages to create a deeper relationship with tourists by humanasing the destination. In this way, tourists visualise the place they are visiting with emotions, personalities and other characteristics attributed to people. As these tourists often turn to tourist guides to define their experience at the destination, the aim of this dissertation is to: Understand how tourist guides perceive the tourist brand of the destination Natal, based on the Brand Personality Scale. This method analyses the destination's brand based on 42 variables divided into 5 dimensions. The quantitative data was analysed using SPSS software. The analyses were validated using Cronbach's Alpha. The results show that tourist guides see the city as sincere, family-orientated, healthy, cheerful, cool, charming and friendly. The main audience for the guides are families from nearby towns, which may explain this positioning. However, when it comes to the Brand specifically, similarities are pointed out between ‘Viva Natal’ and other successful brands, leading to questions about the ‘touristification’ of the destination, i.e. the creation of experiences, and in this case, brands, which make little use of the local identity, being similar to other cases. To deepen the discussion, future studies suggest reapplying the method with tourists, preferably with a larger sample.

Social invisibility is a problem that highlights inequalities and has affected society since the early days of civilization. However, it has only recently gained more intense debate. Despite globalization and technological advancement, political crises around the world have exacerbated inequalities. Tourism is also a social practice that for a long time carried an elitist connotation, but today there is growing discussion about social inclusion in its practice. The inclusion of people with disabilities in tourism activities is the focus of this study. This research analyzes the relationship between tourism and social invisibility, focusing on the accessibility infrastructure in tourist spaces, existing public policies, and the experiences of visually impaired people in Natal, RN. The objective of this research is to analyze the positive and negative aspects of accessibility infrastructure for visually impaired people in tourist spaces; to map the main public policies aimed at visually impaired people in tourist spaces; and to analyze the perceptions of visually impaired people regarding their inclusion and importance in the tourism scene. The methodological approach of this research included bibliographic research to support the study, documentary research on public policies, interviews with visually impaired people to understand their perceptions as tourists or leisure participants, and on-site observation of tourist locations such as the Ponta Negra beach promenade and the Forte dos Reis Magos. This study addressed the social invisibility of visually impaired people in tourism from the perspective of (inadequate) accessibility infrastructure in tourist spaces, (nonexistent or ineffective) public inclusion policies, and potential distortions in self-concept regarding their rights to inclusion. The research reveals that while issues related to infrastructure and tourism public policies are partially addressed in practice, distortions in self-concept were not observed in the groups interviewed. On the contrary, visually impaired people demonstrated a strong awareness of their rights, enabling them to critically assess the shortcomings in public policies and the infrastructure of tourist spaces in the city.

Different dimensions of violence, exploitation, exclusion and inequality mark contemporary tourism, so there has been increasing attention to research that deals with these phenomena and their effects on tourism. In the case of violence, these studies focus on the analysis of the impacts of these practices under the eyes of visitors and tourists, and there are few studies that relate violence and tourism for residents and workers in the sector. In the latter case, the work environment in tourism, especially in the hotel industry, has been characterized as a locus of hierarchical and, at times, abusive and precarious relationships, but which, however, has little to do with the practices of violence. Thus, the problem identified in this analysis concerns the lack of studies that investigate in depth the ramifications of violence during working hours in the hotel industry. In this sense, the main purpose of this research is to analyze the dynamics of violence that occur during working hours in hotels in Natal-RN. It considers the social inequalities arising from tourist development based on the reports and experiences shared by workers and former workers of the sector. The approach used to investigate the topic is, predominantly, qualitative. The strategy adopted to address the research problem was a single case study. To collect primary data, it was used the snowball sampling technique, together with the data collection techniques: netnography and semi-structured interviews. The research results show that despite its development in contemporary society, the hotel industry constantly deals with structural challenges, which involves work overload, the employment relationship of these professionals, the incidence of violence in the work environment, as well as the complaints made or the resolution of these cases. Social inequalities, therefore, coexist in the work relationships developed between employers and employees, and it is a direct reflection of economic neoliberalism and globalization within society. Workers submit to poor conditions imposed by managers and owners, because they need the job, which further reinforces the scenario of precarious working conditions. Furthermore, the violence observed in the work environment of the hotels in Natal consists of the presence of abusive practices related to moral and sexual harassment, racism, homophobia, among others, especially, addressed to the gender perspective. These practices, therefore, project themselves onto gender and other convergences such as sexual orientation, race and social class, reaching even more significant dimensions.

Environments prone to crises and rapid changes cause turbulence in the market in general. Tourism is part of this scenario of uncertainty, where the travel agency sector is undergoing restructuring and facing robust problems. Experts in business growth in uncertain environments emphasize that strategies based on old and rigid management models face challenges, and indicate new scientific evidence anchored in the theory of Transient Competitive Advantage (VCT). Thus, the central objective of this thesis is to analyze strategies and applicability of business models in the context of crises in travel agencies in Brazil. This is an applied descriptive-exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, divided into several stages. Initially, the objective was to identify dimensions necessary to guide the research, investigating subjective aspects to support the discussion. In the next phase, and with the rupture of the consolidated theme through the state of the art of studies and publications of articles in renowned journals in the area by the researchers (student and supervisor of this thesis), it was possible to construct the theoretical framework and elaborate a preliminary model, submitted for evaluation through a pre-test to travel agents in Brazil. In the third stage, it was possible to design and build the model from existing models. In the fourth stage, multiple case studies were applied to five travel agencies in the country indicated by ABAV – Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies, with the intentional sample representing the five regions of the country. At this stage, the in-depth interview instrument was designed to understand the meanings and situational characteristics presented by travel agents. After applying and analyzing the interviews through content analysis, academic and marketing contributions were made to the travel agency market. As a conclusion, the thesis presents a new model where travel agencies in Brazil, although driven by changes in the business models used that do not fully represent innovative and disruptive aspects, are able to maintain satisfactory positions in crisis environments, through the creation of bonds established with its clients through the values of trust, security and respect for the brand, allowing agencies longevity in the market.

As a result of digital transformations and changes in educational processes that support a more autonomous and liberating education, the concept of online learning (e-learning) emerges as an alternative to promote training, development and education actions for people. E-learning places the student as the protagonist of the training process, but these modern methods will not be fully effective if users are inclined to not accept these technologies. Although studies have been dedicated to investigating the adoption of e-learning in formal educational institutions - basic to higher education - research that has focused on the factors of its acceptance in the corporate environment, especially tourism, is rare. In this context, this thesis aims to integrate theories from the areas of organizational management, psychology and education to analyze the acceptance factors of e-learning in the hotel industry, namely: Competitive Values Framework; Psychological Empowerment; and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology. Therefore, the central objective is to investigate the relationships between organizational culture and psychological empowerment for the acceptance and use of e-learning in the hotel industry. This is a hypothetical-deductive research, with a quantitative approach, descriptive and explanatory. The field of study was made up of hotel chains that promote online training and operate in the Brazilian context, while the responding subjects were employees from different functions in the hotels. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, from a sample of 312 employees who had online learning experiences in the workplace. Data processing and analysis occurred via descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), supported by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results showed that the organizational culture profile that predominates in the hotel industry is Clan and Innovative, with no statistically significant differences between them. Competence was the most prominent dimension of empowerment, showing that people have enough self-efficacy to complete the courses. Furthermore, Effort Expectancy also stood out among the e-learning acceptance dimensions, which shows that people see online learning platforms as easy to use. After testing hypotheses, the research resulted in a structural model of relationships that explains 57% of the antecedents of hotel employees' intention to use e-learning. The path taken from Social Influence, through Clan Culture and Empowerment proved to be the most effective in the hotel context. Finally, it is possible to conclude that there are cause-effect relationships between organizational culture, empowerment and acceptance of e- learning in the hotel industry and the proposed model can help managers in making decisions regarding the effective implementation of e-learning practices.

Throughout history, events have undergone significant metamorphoses driven by a myriad of influences, from technological advancements to cultural changes. These transformations are particularly evident when considering user experience as something that transcends mere participation, becoming key to emotional connection, and event design as a crucial tool in projecting memorable experiences. In this sense, the present research analyzed the influence of the Event Design method on the optimization and enhancement of user experience, considering the distinct dynamics between the virtual and physical worlds. Using phenomenology as a method, the aim was to identify the experiences projected by organizers and understand the perceptions, emotions, and meanings attributed by participants. The qualitative approach was employed to allow for a deep and contextualized understanding of complex and subjective phenomena. Focusing on popular festivals, the study's scope encompassed the June festivals in northeastern Brazil, with the sample delimited to Mossoró Cidade Junina, São João de Campina Grande, and São João de Caruaru, with the research actors being the users of both virtual and physical celebrations, and representatives of the organizations involved. The combination of the Domains of Experience, Events Experience Scale (EES), Event Social Interaction Scale (ESIS), and Event Experience Mapping Model (EEMM) scales was used to develop data collection tools: a semi-structured in-depth interview script, a plan supporting participant observation, an integrated questionnaire for measuring and interpreting user experience, and card sorting for the theoretical sample. Data analysis was based on Straussian Grounded Theory or Relativist Grounded Theory (GT) and assisted by the Iramuteq software. Considering the results from both the virtual and physical realms, it was demonstrated that, although there is a genuine concern from festival organizers with participants' experience, the lack of a strategic, design-oriented approach limited the potential for creating experiences. The gaps identified, through data triangulation, revealed that this absence resulted in incipient action on the dimensions of cognitive engagement, despite the June festivals offering a broad spectrum for linking entertainment to learning, and on the experience of novelty, which emerged incipiently in the innovative context of the lives made available during the pandemic. Thus, the understanding of event design as an essential tool to be integrated into a broader dynamic that considers the implementation of innovative technologies; accessibility; community involvement; meaning - represented here by culture; hospitality; direct communication between organization and users; basic and fundamental services to events - health and safety; and equity in the delivery of services was validated, in order to enhance the delivery of memorable and meaningful experiences to participants.

Tourism in protected areas is made up of three main aspects: rationality about the integration of local communities, neoliberal environmental conservation and the spatialization of tourism use, all of which bring together tensions within the poverty-stricken population. In this context, protected areas are a focus for understanding tourism because they encompass power relations where everyday actions and external processes are concentrated, such as the actions of various agents in restructuring the territory. The thesis aims to understand the dynamics of tourism and narratives of poverty, considering the ideology of development linked to the context of protected areas in Mozambique, especially in Limpopo National Park, seeking to analyze tourism and the narratives associated with poverty; the context of the creation of conservation areas and their connection with the actions of various agents; It also problematizes the neoliberal ideology and its basis in the restructuring of conservation areas, as well as the political agenda of tourism, and investigates the process of citizen participation and social transformations in indigenous communities, with a view to the internal organization of their territories. From a methodological point of view, based on a qualitative approach, the aim is to carry out bibliographical research on the subject under study and documentary research, analyzing Mozambican policy documents, such as national plans and management plans linked to tourism, poverty and conservation. Empirical research was carried out with the help of in- depth interviews, in order to gather the feelings and reasoning of the people involved in the dynamics of the Limpopo National Park. In addition to collecting information from locals and community leaders to obtain testimonies about the lives of the people involved, interviews were conducted with government tourism and conservation bodies, as well as with the main partner Non-Governmental Organization in order to identify their thoughts and concrete actions. Tourism plays a fundamental role in the actions and practices of everyday dialogic structuring, revealing itself as fundamental in the formation of narratives. This complex phenomenon is influenced by various factors, including the mechanisms and purposes of international politics in tourism relations. Ideologies linked to the actions of the state also play a significant role, leaving their mark on the construction of tourism and the context of political representations in the face of diverse social realities. As these are communities of small groups, articulation is flexible, but the decision-making process is somewhat questionable, given that the fragility of citizen participation, access to information and crucial decision-making for their destinations depend on historically constructed power relations, from the family to the constitutional context.

OBJECTIVE: This study analyzes the design and use of promotion and communication strategies and tools in the internationalization of tourism in Mozambique, as a managerial and marketing approach, considering its conditions and current reality. METHODOLOGY: This is exploratory-descriptive research, with a functional and qualitative approach. It uses primary and secondary data collection strategies, through interviews, documentary research, informal observations. It focuses on the public that works directly in the sector and on the actions of government power. The empirical research corpus is composed of informants, from among public and private institutions that participate in promoting the country as an international destination. Apply the AC method (Content Analysis), using Excel as a tool to support the analytical-interpretive process. RESULTS: It is noted that the international destination Mozambique has a rich and diverse tourist potential in natural, heritage and traditional unique resources, offering a vast array of tourist experiences. The study highlights the establishment of strategic plans and documents aimed at developing the activity and its tourism promotion and marketing strategy. It shows how the main promotional and communication tools used to promote the country internationally are participation in international fairs and familiarization visits. It explains the different issuing markets and how promotion actions are directed in markets at an international level. It demonstrates the existence and use of partnerships with the private sector, with special emphasis on the regional sector for tourism development. It still makes little evident use of media spaces, networks and digital platforms. Reveals the goals achieved during the validity of the last marketing strategy, its scope and limitations. CONCLUSION: It concludes that the country is determined to promote tourism internationally, targeting real and potential source markets to attract tourists, although difficulties and challenges persist mainly related to the management of digital platforms, and mainly of a financial nature and qualified human resources.

Although the competitiveness of tourist destinations has gained prominence among the themes that make up the agendas of academics and government officials in recent decades, generating the proposition of robust reference models and contributing to their definition and theoretical delimitation, when transported to the field of application to different contexts, or that of a specific tourist attraction, as is the case of Conservation Units (CUs), require the adaptation of their criteria and attributes to the specificities of the attraction itself. In order to contribute to this adaptation, this research is concerned with proposing a reference structure for analyzing the competitiveness of conservation units as tourist attractions, capable of capturing both attributes that condition competitiveness already consolidated for destinations, and those that can translate the context and specificities of the UCs tourist attraction. The research is conducted using a qualitative methodology in two stages: the first was dedicated to the office deck for analysis and compilation of models already consolidated on the topic, from which the conceptual framework of the competitiveness attributes applied to the UCS proposed in the thesis was built, constituted of 4 dimensions 13 attributes and 24 indicators. In the second stage, the framework is validated by applying it to 3 UCs in Mozambique, characterizing the multi-case study. The techniques used were document analysis, compilation of data from secondary sources, field research, through in- person visits to collect data on site, interviews with managers, legislators and other UC actors. Data reading and interpretation were based on techniques such as content analysis, through the interpretation of primary and secondary data extracted from the survey, individual case studies - Màgoé, Gorongosa and Limpopo, in Mozambique, Africa. The results made it possible to draw some conclusions regarding the theme and context of the competitive conditions and sustainability of the UCs studied. Fremework proved to be adequate in preposing attributes that contributed to measuring the tourist competitiveness of conservation units and that reflect the premises of sustainability and the specificity and complexity of UCs. It allows evaluating the evolution of the situation of UCs in meeting the attributes, comparison between themselves and individually, in the face of international destination competitiveness criteria, map the difference in situations or realities in the UCs analyzed in terms of their current capacity for tourist competitiveness as well as reveal the potential and trajectories towards more robust competitive positions in terms of destination competitiveness , in this context, Gorongosa Park was found to have a strong competitive situation, Limpopo Park to have a more vulnerable competitive situation and finally Màgoé Park to be further away from the criteria or less competitive. Therefore, it is considered a theoretical model valid for a destination such as UC.

Tourism and hospitality Education is a critical factor in the qualification of professionals in the sector. Vocational-technical education (VTE) combined with the competency-based learning model play an important role in training in tourism. Together they contribute to the reduction versus mitigation of the discrepancy between the skills developed in training and the skills required by the market. The study aimed to understand the mechanisms for acquiring and developing skills and changing attitudes and behaviors in tourism vocational-technical education programs in Inhambane municipality (IM). Regarding the methodology, the study is qualitative, descriptive and exploratory. The interviews and surveys constituted the data collection instruments defined for conducting the study. As for the interviews, they were aimed at managers of vocational-technical education institutions (VTEI) in tourism and hospitality in IM; and representatives of public and private entities linked to tourism and hospitality and, equally, employability in the sector. Regarding the surveys, their target audience was VTEI graduates and employers in the tourism and hospitality sector in IM. Likewise, the study was conducted through the analysis of instruments guiding education in Mozambique and, particularly, vocational-technical education in tourism and hospitality. The analysis of the data provided by the different participants in the study and also by the guiding instruments of the VTE in tourism and hospitality in IM allowed, overall, to bring the following results: the VTE in tourism and hospitality in Inhambane Municipality is conducted in compliance with the National Professional Qualifications Framework; operational skills (hard skills) and functional skills (soft skills) constitute the competencies defined in VTE programs in tourism in IM; the skills development process is carried out taking into account what is defined in the programs of the different courses and the conditions and resources that actually exist, such as facilities and equipment, teachers and financial resources. It is also important to say that several constraints are encountered during the teaching and learning process. This situation compromises, to a certain extent, the development of skills foreseen in the VTEI course programs. Therefore, it is concluded that the teaching and learning process in VTE courses only contributes to the development of basic skills for carrying out activities in the tourism and hospitality sector. The skills developed are not adjusted to the current dynamics and demands of the tourism and hospitality sector, both in the global and local context. Therefore, the study proposes a training framework that takes into account market skills and the educational profile of tourism and hospitality vocational-technical training in Inhambane Municipality. From this perspective, the proposed framework aims to make the VTE more responsive to the current global and local dynamics and demands of the tourism and hospitality sector. A vocational-technical education is proposed based on the harmonious and articulated relationship between global trends in the tourism and hospitality sector, global trends in tourism and hospitality education, government, vocational-technical education institutions and companies in the tourism and hospitality sector in Inhambane Municipality.

The present study, of an exploratory-descriptive nature and quantitative approach, aimed to identify the relationship between leadership and hotel performance in Mozambican hospitality. Two instruments were used for the research: one on leadership containing 28 indicators, answered by employees without managerial or supervisory positions, adapted from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) 6S Form developed by Bass and Avolio (2004); and one on hotel performance adapted from the instrument developed by Medeiros (2003), containing 36 indicators, including occupancy rate, average daily rate, average length of stay, overall performance, and the quality of services provided, which was answered by managers. The data were analyzed using statistical techniques of factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. A total of 124 employees from various operational areas and 23 hotel managers from the three main Mozambican cities, Maputo, Beira, and Nampula, were interviewed. As the main results, seven latent dimensions of leadership were identified, with a total explained variance of 79.7%. A causal relationship was also found showing that two latent dimensions of leadership explain (R2) 28.7% of the business performance of the hotels surveyed, with the individualized consideration dimension negatively influencing hotel performance (β = -0.38), and the idealized influence (charisma) dimension positively influencing hotel performance (β = 0.36). It is concluded that the predominant leadership style in Mozambican hospitality is charismatic leadership (idealized influence), explained in 41.6%, and that leadership styles influence the business performance of hotels in Mozambique.

The main objective of this research is to problematize the “myths and realities” in the context of the economic belief that tourism generates employment and income, contributing to the social development of local communities - in this case, the Municipality of Inhambane (MI). In the methodological approach, therefore in the planning and execution of the research, we used bibliographical and documentary research, definition and operationalization of the research variables, non-participant observation, exploratory interviews, basically to problematize and define a theoretical framework guiding the research. The data collection instruments were mixed surveys, interviews and observation. We used purposive sampling (authorities and institutions) and accessibility sampling in direct contact with the communities, the latter in the parishes of Barra, Tofo, Tofinho and Inhambane City. Systematic observation scripts were also applied to the variables related to tourism-based social development in mi. Finally, the results were analyzed and interpreted using the main technique called content analysis, based on reflexive and critical-dialectical interpretation; in addition, the results were presented through tabulation, graphs, images and maps. The research yielded results on the myths and realities of tourism's contribution to improving the well-being and standard of living of communities in mi. To this end, we characterized the dynamics of tourism in order to gauge the current level of general tourism supply in the MI; we ascertained the existence and applicability of public tourism policies in promoting development in the MI; we researched the participation of local communities in tourism businesses and in the decision-making system in general, in order to make the most important choices that can improve their lives. This is based on the widespread belief that tourism contributes to development through the generation of work and income, the multiplier effect, and the stimulation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, among other aspects. Our analysis indicates that tourism does contribute, albeit to a limited extent, to development. However, issues persist such as centralization and politicization in decision-making, restrictions on freedom, job insecurity, disrespect for workers' rights, informality in local economies without negotiating power, neglect of the social responsibilities of companies and local government, seasonal unemployment, low levels of education, social inequalities, silencing of local voices, corruption, weak public-private partnerships, among other limits and difficulties. These challenges contrast with the vision of development presented in the research, which emphasizes increasing capacities beyond the financial aspect, so that communities are the agent or subject, that is, protagonists of development and not merely a vulnerable object in need of assistance. Consequently, it seeks to achieve higher levels of autonomy, quality of life, well-being, happiness and freedom. Thus, the study has the potential not only to add value to the sphere of resistance and alternative reflection on development, but it can also be an effective tool for raising awareness among authorities of the importance of strengthening local communities through tourism

The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the existence of integration between the solidarity economy and local activities, in the Tourist Territory of the Municipality of Inhambane (TTMI). The research method applied is hypothetical deductive in the analysis of the relationship between tourism, integrated planning and solidarity economy. The approach adopted was qualitative, following bibliographic, documentary and online research techniques. The universe of field research included the application of a questionnaire to catering establishments, local music and dance makers and members of the local community and the application of interviews to solidarity economy enterprises (farmers, potters and fishermen), representatives of the public sector and from the Inhambane Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism; and privately from the Inhambane Provincial Hotel and Tourism Association, community leaders, small traders and local market vendors and a non-participant and systematic/structured observation grid. To ensure the analysis of information, systematization of ideas, preparation of the report and conclusion, discourse analysis was adopted, which will be supported by the use of descriptive, explanatory and statistical methods. The theoretical content of the research explores issues related to cooperation, shared management and the "collective self" as fundamental terms to discuss the solidarity economy. It addresses tourism planning from an integrated management perspective and the process of designing and implementing public tourism policies. All reflection is carried out with a view to analyzing the essential elements for the creation of solidarity economy initiatives. The majority of research participants are women, and solidarity economy enterprises are mainly made up of adults and elderly people, who have low education. The agents of the local economy are mostly young, with a significant presence of people with primary and secondary education levels, in addition to a considerable percentage of individuals with higher education. In TTMI there are some local activities integrated with the principles of solidarity economy, however, there are still some obstacles to overcome. The participation of the local economy in tourism planning is weak, the public policy development process does not allow for its active integration, and the low level of training also constitutes a major challenge, therefore, the management model adopted in the TTMI does not ensure the integration of local economies into TTMI tourism planning. In this way, the results obtained made it possible to validate the second hypothesis of the research, which states that a “weak level of training and knowledge of different tourism management instruments, the fragility of solidarity economy enterprise initiatives on the part of local communities contributes negatively for the development of local economies, based on tourism. To improve this process, greater involvement and commitment from both the public and private sectors is necessary, to improve the planning models applied and ensure the formation of the community for empowerment.

This study addresses the management of the resident community stakeholder, recognizing its power of political influence and economic interest in tourism development in any destination. With this, the perceptions and emotions of residents regarding the development of tourism in their usual surroundings can contribute useful information to the development of strategies that allow sustainable management of tourism in destinations in the most diverse situations. In this sense, this study's main objective is to analyze the interrelationships between cognitive and emotional factors capable of influencing residents' support for the development of religious tourism. Three theories originating from psychology were used to support this research, namely: Social Exchange Theory; Place Identity Theory; and Emotional Solidarity Theory. The first theory allows the investigation of cognitive factors and the second and third involve those related to identity and emotional components, which may influence residents' support for the development of tourism in a location. In view of the survey and analysis of studies that addressed the topic, as well as the mentioned theories, a systematic review of the literature was carried out for theoretical composition regarding the modeling of relationships between cognitive and emotional factors capable of influencing residents' support for development of tourism. The study is a descriptive study with a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach under the auspices of the hypothetical-deductive method. A structural model of the relationship between variables capable of influencing residents’ support for tourism development is tested considering dimensions supported by the mentioned theories. Data collection procedures included the use of a form and a research questionnaire, both applied to the resident population of the religious tourism destination investigated. The results demonstrated, in an alternative model, the existence of significant relationships between residents' perception of quality of life and the impacts of religious tourism, as well as between the identity of the place and support for tourism development, the latter being mediated for emotional solidarity. Based on the results found, it is considered that for effective management of the resident community stakeholder and a harmonious development of tourism, it is worth considering strategies aimed at maximizing the positive impacts of tourism, valuing, and conserving the identity of the place, as well as factors of residents’ emotional solidarity with others.

Historically, tourism development in Brazil has focused on the use of its natural resources, especially its tropical climate and its coastline, which is more than 20,000 km long. Given the richness and diversity of their use and their finite resources, these spaces have suffered countless problems due to misuse, both by tourist activity and by the unsustainable use of the resident population. In response to these challenges, in 2019 the Ministry of Tourism launched a series of actions for the development and management of responsible waterfronts in Portugal. To this end, it promoted direct actions for the diagnosis and planning of waterfronts through the "Brasil, essa é a nossa praia (BNP)" Project, in partnership with the "Projeto Orla (PO)". In this context, the aim of this study was to understand how responsible tourism can contribute to the sustainable management of waterfronts used by tourists in Brazil. This investigation was conceived as a reality that is socially constructed from the relationship between subject and object, characterizing this study as exploratory, with a qualitative approach, based on the constructivist epistemological perspective, from the phenomenological paradigm. The empirical substance of this research is represented by a subset of data derived from multiple case studies: Angra dos Reis (RJ), São Sebastião (SP), Barreirinhas (MA), Salvador (BA), Natal (RN), Cruz (CE), Cabo Frio (RJ), Vila Velha (ES), Paraty (RJ) and Imbé (RS). Data was collected through documentary research, including a search for information in official publications and on the entities' websites, and semi-structured interviews with key representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, the municipal authorities of the cities under study, members of the BNP and facilitators of the Projeto Orla, carried out between March and June 2024. The data was analyzed using discursive textual analysis and content analysis. The results show that responsible tourism, although still in its infancy in Brazil, contributes to the sustainable management of waterfronts by incorporating discussions about responsibilities in the sector. This approach promotes a more holistic vision, focused on the present, on participatory processes, encouraging all the agents involved to take on their leading role. This research revealed that the main motivators for acting responsibly are classified into endogenous factors such as altruism, legitimacy and competitiveness, and exogenous factors such as stakeholder pressures, environmental pressures and regulatory pressure. This reflects varying stages of motivation between different cities in the responsible management of tourist destinations. As for the limiting factors, they are marked by popular disbelief in participatory processes, political instability and a lack of administrative continuity, as well as limited technical capacity on the part of the parties involved. Finally, strategies such as strengthening municipal associations and councils, certifications, partnerships with educational institutions and public-private partnerships were presented as tools that can contribute to discussions of responsibility in tourism. For future research, we suggest evaluating the sustainability of the arrangements established between the municipal, state and federal spheres, as well as analyzing the technical guidance material on waterfront management produced within the scope of the project and studies focusing on community participation.

The main objective of this thesis is to understand whether the pressures and impacts of tourism on Jenipabu Beach, a community belonging to the Área de Proteção Ambiental Jenipabu, interfere with the resilient response process. The research has a qualitative and quantitative approach of an exploratory and descriptive nature. In addition, it relies on systematic bibliographical research using the Knowledge Development Process - Constructivist (Proknow-C), with support from the free software Zotero and Atlas.ti, as well as documentary and field research. Regarding the data collection plan, semi- structured and in-depth interviews were carried out, combined with on-site observations and photographic records. Furthermore, the Transcultural-Community Resilience Scale (T-CRS) was used in an adapted form, based on non-probabilistic convenience sampling, resulting in the application of 134 questionnaires. The study has a proposed analytical model, the Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response- Resilience (DPSIR-R), adapted (European Environmental Agency, 1999). The data analysis and interpretation process took place through content analysis and descriptive statistics analysis. The latter was carried out with the help of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 24 for Windows. The results indicated that, in Jenipabu Beach, tourism is the main economic activity, offering a diversity of tours, services and tourist enterprises. The diagnosis of the pressures and impacts of tourism on Jenipabu Beach was revealed based on the following dimensions: public management, infrastructure, environmental, cultural, social and economic As for the results of the T-CRS scale (adapted), and based on the cut-off of the subjects of this research, the resilient response to the pressures and impacts of tourism on Jenipabu Beach is positive. Thus, based on the results of the theoretical and empirical discussion, a set of conditions, characteristics and actions were launched to make the resilient response positive in local communities within the scope of protected natural areas, which cover the following topics: 1. Readiness and Preparation; 2 Cooperation and Collaboration; 3. Flexibility and Adaptability; 4. Effective and democratic communication: 5. Recovery Capacity; 6. Local Empowerment; 7. Inclusion and Equity; 8. Long-Term Planning. Finally, based on the theoretical contribution presented and the results found in this thesis, it is necessary to emphasize that, even in the face of a scenario of uncertainty, pressure, impacts, crises and instabilities in the tourist system, communities can still have a resilient response positive, but at the same time they can demonstrate weaknesses and vulnerabilities in dimensions of community resilience (CR), as was the case of Praia de Jenipabu, presented in the dimensions of community trust and faith, and mainly in that of state or administrative honesty, as it presents considerable dissatisfaction and distrust with the performance of public authorities.

Events permeated by faith are one of the main causes of human displacement around the world. These events, linked to a religious belief, are instruments for legitimising hospitality in today's society, since they influence and shape the behaviour of countless people. Religions emphasise hospitality, welcoming the other, the visitor, the foreigner and the vulnerable as an innate condition of their faithful. In Christianity, in particular, this hospitality is also a duty, and through its events it is one of the ways to bring them closer to the other. Specifically, since the Second Vatican Council (1961-65), the Catholic Church has opened its doors to the lay faithful to take on ministerial roles, found communities and help with evangelisation, with the emergence of the New Communities (NC) to bring it closer to the people through their daily activities and events. The aim is to analyse how hospitality at religious events with a tourist flow produces meaningful experiences. Phenomenology was used as a method to treat a multiple case study with descriptive and exploratory characteristics and a qualitative approach. From a universe of 29 NCs registered with the Archdiocese of Natal/RN, it was decided, based on pre- established criteria, to choose two and one event from each, determining the organisers, collaborators and participants as the research agents. Data collection was carried out through bibliographical and documentary research, participant observation, online data mining through the social network Instagram, interviews and focus groups using semi-structured scripts. Data analysis combined a description of the cases in chronological order with content analysis. This was aided by the Reshape software to transcribe the oral content in order to transform it into a corpus, submit it to Iramuteq and finally draw up the Idea Association Maps using MindMeister. For the online data mining analyses, the categories and criteria adapted from Alves et al (2022) were used to create the Narrative Lines via Pictorchart. The results were presented according to the experiences of each agent investigated in the stages of operationalising events. It is reported that organisers and collaborators are treated as servants. In the pre-event, hospitality shapes the experience of the servants based on the desire to prepare to welcome the other person in order to evangelise them, while that of the potential public is formed by expectation, fuelled by the spiritual aspect and information that will be exposed by the communities throughout this period. At the event, it was identified that, for the servants, the practice of hospitality is linked to offering material conditions to welcome the other unconditionally, while for the participants, it is about perceiving the actions of the event in its entirety. In the post-event period, the experience is realised as meaningful for the servants by aligning faith, human and material actions in order to welcome the other; and for the participants in the joint assimilation of what was offered. The conclusion is that the two logics of hospitality, the conditional/commercial and the unconditional, need to work together in order to achieve meaningful experiences at religious events. It is suggested that, as they have a tourist flow, an inventory should be made for cataloguing and dissemination to the trade in order to increase the range of attractions on offer and boost new styles of tourism.

In the context of tourism that can be both beneficial and harmful, the historic center of Olinda faces the challenge of managing its cultural heritage while promoting its development through tourism. Given that this scenario involves various agents at the heart of deliberations and decision-making, the governance of this historic center becomes essential in coordinating efforts among these entities and interests. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how the involved agents articulate actions and strategies that seek to reconcile preservation and tourism. The general objective of the research is to analyze the dynamics of governance in Olinda's historic center, considering the touristic use of its heritage and the consequences and outcomes of these articulations. The research is descriptive and explanatory, with a qualitative approach. Data collection and analysis were conducted using content analysis, establishing categories such as strategic planning, participation and inclusion, cooperation and coordination, institutional capacity, implementation and evaluation of deliberated actions, and the uses and effects of tourism, which structured the analysis of the results. To identify the social structure within this context, the theoretical-methodological perspective of Bourdieu (1996; 2000; 2009; 2010) was employed, using his concepts of field and habitus. The main findings indicate that the Council for the Preservation of the Historic Center of Olinda (CPSHO) plays a leading role in the management of its historic center. However, this council operates with several limitations, including the absence of a defined work plan or systematic planning and execution processes, reflecting a weakness in its management and a lack of efficiency in the actions taken in favor of tourism and preservation in Olinda's historic center. Moreover, it was found that there is no direct integration between the preservation and tourism sectors, resulting in a fragmentation of the actions and policies implemented. It was identified that the dominant and most influential agents in this structure are preservation agents and social agents; however, depending on the capital at stake, these agents may act as allies or antagonists. This reality suggests that despite the integration of various agents through the council and active community participation, the governance structure is inconsistent and ineffective, facing significant challenges in translating identified issues and deliberations into practical execution and effective results.

Since the last decade, Ibero-America has emerged as a scene of proliferation of studies, initiatives and projects related to both smart cities and smart tourism destinations. Considering smart tourism as a sociotechnical phenomenon, the aim of this research is to understand the articulation of trajectories and dynamics involved in the co-production processes between tourism and smartness interrelationships in the Latin American region, drawing from both the academic field and other actors involved in sociotechnical assemblages. To this end, the concept of sociotechnical imaginaries, offered by the field of science, technology and society (STS) studies, works, in heuristic terms, as a theoreticalmethodological toolbox to investigate visions of futures that could be achieved with the support of advances in science and technology, and the emergence of landscapes of modernity in the region. With regard to methodology, empirical research was operationalized through an interpretative and integrated multiple case study, with a descriptive-exploratory and comparative approach based on mixed methods. In accordance with the methodological recommendations for the analysis of sociotechnical imaginaries, data collection involved a triangulation of materialities based on bibliographic analysis, documentary research and semi-structured interviews. The modes of analysis were based on inductive/abductive reasoning and the analysis techniques involved the application of constructivist grounded theory complemented by discourse analysis, focusing on discursive-evocative practices. Among the results of the study, it was identified that, based on the trajectories of the Latin American academic field, the relationships between tourism and smartness have been showing a growing trend that introduces changes from technocentric visions to broader and more systemic ones linked to planning, management and governance, as well as critical and alternative visions. In turn, based on the cases of initiatives and projects in the region, with a focus on Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia and Brazil, the visions are presented as systemic, albeit flexible and heterogeneous strategies for renewal, related to the improvement of efficiency and modernization of tourism management in the territories; with a central role for data-driven strategic planning and integrated governance, in which tourism acts as an articulator; in addition to the constitution of cooperation networks, including those with regional and international scope. Finally, the opportunities and challenges that arise from the sociotechnical arrangements of smart tourism in Latin America are discussed, in order to continue reflecting, beyond the hegemonic sociotechnical imaginary informed by the global imperative of techno-utopian progress, on their consequences and impacts; also considering the contradictions and interests implied in the context of digital capitalism.

The Lencois Maranhenses National Park, a world patrimony humanity, has proven to be a strong tourism driver for the state of Maranhao, attracting the attention of government, business people and visitors. It contributes to the generation of jobs and income, both directly and indirectly, especially for those who work in the park, accompanying tourists, whether they are tour guides, visitor guides, vehicle drivers or boat pilots, who usually organize themselves through associations and cooperatives. Thus, the main objective of this research is to understand the organizational strategies of professionals who work on tours in the PNLM, given the informality and precariousness of work in tourism. To this end, the methodological procedures used were bibliographical and documentary research, field studies with a qualitative approach, in loco observation, and semi-structured interviews combined with the life trajectory technique, with the presidents of associations and cooperatives and tour workers, seeking to understand their working conditions and whether they are moving in some way toward less predatory tourism. The data analysis was based on content analysis. The study revealed that the work of these individuals is precarious and residual, due to being informal and seasonal. However, actions have been developed in an attempt to alleviate this precariousness. This thesis contributes to the advancement of research based on workers who work in national parks, by listening to these individuals who survive from tourism.

Globalization, technological advances, market segmentation, socio- environmental responsibility, mergers and partnerships have transformed the way companies manage their activities, from customer service to the most advanced management strategies, which can result in competitive advantages and, consequently, in improved organizational performance. However, the new business environment has presented challenges in performance assessment, leading to measurements that consider qualitative aspects throughout the process and in line with the definition of strategies. In view of this, this study aims to analyze, from the perspective of the Balanced Scorecard Theory (BSC), the relationships between the variables capable of influencing the perception of business performance in the hotel sector, based on innovation strategies, ICTs and RSA practices. Data collection involved two different questionnaires, one open and one closed. The qualitative and exploratory phase included the participation of 5 hotels managers. In the quantitative stage, the study involved 311 managers, and the information collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, using IBM SPSS software. The results of the study indicate a correlation between the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) practices and innovation with the perception of business performance in hotel management. With coefficients of determination R² greater than 0.500, considered satisfactory in applied social sciences, the hypotheses are robust and suggest that the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) variables - processes, customers, learning and financial - are effective indicators for measuring the impact of these practices on perceived performance. This reinforces the importance of integrating these strategic dimensions to improve competitiveness and sustainability in the hotel sector.

This thesis aims to understand how Pastoral Tourism (Pastur) in Salvador, Bahia, orchestrates its strategies to promote hospitality experiences within Catholic faith itineraries, in the context of religious tourism. In this scenario, hospitality is a crucial element intertwined with spiritual values, shaping the experiences of visitors. The research, which is qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory in nature, was conducted through documentary, bibliographic, and participant analysis, complemented by semi-structured interviews and focus groups with representatives of the Church, the tourism sector, and visitors. Focusing on the faith itineraries implemented since 2017, such as Art and Faith, Charity and Faith, and Convents and Monasteries, the research observes hospitality practices and their implications for religious tourism. The results show that Pastur plays a fundamental role in harmonizing spiritual and economic interests, promoting hospitality that respects the domestic, social, and commercial aspects of the experience, according to Lashley's theory. Furthermore, the research highlights the challenges faced in implementing these practices, such as the need to balance the authenticity of the experiences with commercial demands. The thesis concludes that Pastur's hospitality strategies in Salvador can serve as a model for other regions, demonstrating how the intersection between tourism and religion can contribute to sustainable development while enriching the spiritual experience of participants. In this context, hospitality, when adapted to the demands of tourism, emerges as a central practice that sustains and strengthens devotional traditions, maintaining the connection between visitors and sacred spaces, while also boosting the region's economic and social development.

In the relationship between tourism and culture, there is a dialectical conflict in the forms of cultural production and in the configurations of the supply and consumption of tourist products, which significantly affect the people and territories involved. When investigating patrimonialization, discourses and practices are identified that highlight distinctions and tensions related to cultures, environments, historical periods, and territories. The processes of patrimonialization and touristification are interconnected, resembling each other and intensely impacting sociocultural dynamics and the production of space. This thesis sought to identify, map, and characterize the materialization and territorialization of frevo and its use in tourism in Recife and Olinda (Pernambuco, Brazil), and to investigate its patrimonialization - based on the theoretical-methodological proposal of popular activation of patrimony-territory - ultimately reflecting on “other possible forms of tourism”. From a decolonial perspective, a bibliographical review and theoretical crossover of critical tourism and heritage studies were conducted. Through documentary research, the nomination dossiers of frevo as Brazilian and world Intangible Cultural Heritage and the revalidation opinions of these titles were examined, along with documents, laws, plans, projects, and initiatives focused on culture, tourism, and frevo. Additionally, semi- structured interviews and participant and non-participant observation were conducted to understand the singularities and specificities of the frevo communities. Content analysis allowed for the identification and characterization of the conceptions, discourses, and narratives present and recurring in the documents, testimonies, and observations collected. This set of procedures enabled the analysis of the Affective Territorial Connection Variables (ATCV) and the development of the Frevo Map. It was intriguing to observe that although frevo represents and identifies the tourist destination Recife/Olinda, it does not seem to effectively benefit from the advantages (including economic) derived from the services and products that support tourism. The critical and decolonial analyses identified the struggles and utopias of frevo practitioners to resist the power standards (modern, Eurocentric, and colonial) that align with the hegemonic logics of capitalism and the global market, affecting social existence and material and subjective relations particularly in Latin America. It is estimated that this thesis contributes to uncommon reflections in the theoretical field of tourism, as, beyond being a case study of unique aspects, the considerations and analyses may be relevant for thinking about “other possible forms of tourism” in different contexts and realities where cultural assets are subject to global patrimonialization and touristification processes.

Personalization refers to the process of creating and adapting customer services and experiences to the individual needs, preferences, tastes, or constraints of the customer, particularly in the context of dynamic changes in the customer environment. Technological advancements also shape tourists' expectations regarding information services and the purchase intention process. This research, therefore, presents an exploratory study that proposes a model aimed at investigating how tourists' personality factors (Big Five Personality Traits) moderate their information processing in relation to behavioral intention to purchase tourism products/services on Online Social Networks (OSN). To explore this phenomenon, the study combines the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the Heuristic-Systematic Model (HSM), and the Big Five Personality Traits, considering the information processing by tourists in online social networks through two routes: the heuristic route, which considers the reliability of user- generated content (UGC), and the systematic route, which focuses on the quality of the argument in the UGC. These two routes are hypothesized to influence credibility, subsequently examining the direct relationship between the credibility of information and the Big Five personality traits in shaping tourists' attitudes and behavioral intentions toward purchasing tourism products/services. This research adopts a descriptive-exploratory approach based on the hypothetical-deductive method and employs a quantitative methodology. It operates within the positivist and pragmatic paradigms, as these allow for the application of quantitative methods to meet the explanatory and confirmatory goals of the study while supporting the notion of individuality and contextual dependence of tourist needs in the purchasing process of products/services in OSN. The data analysis techniques employed include exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the relationships between constructs based on their assigned indicators, utilizing the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) AMOS software to process and analyze the collected data. The main findings reveal that utilitarian components (extroversion, agreeableness) and experiential components (neuroticism) act as personality predictors, with heuristic and systematic routes influencing the credibility of information processing and, through attitude, positively impacting the intention to purchase tourism products/services in OSN, with a variance explained by 53%. The contribution of this research lies in interpreting the role of the consumer within the contemporary market environment of intelligent, data-driven personalized services, where tourists’ perceptions of personalized information performance are dynamically shaped throughout the interaction process and their active participation in the service. Furthermore, the non-intrusive, real-time management of these interactions, combined with the idea that information processing based on the co- occurrence of routes and the management of Big Five dimensions (utilitarian: neuroticism; experiential: extroversion, agreeableness), together lead to a general perception of personalized content performance, thereby serving as an effective tool for managing purchase intention and personalizing information in tourism.

This paper presents the theoretical concepts of the thesis project “Tourism and Socio-Environmental Conflicts: Challenges and Possibilities of Mediation in the Development of Tourism in Protected Areas of Amapa”. With a significant theme in the current national situation, the problem consists of analyzing the challenges and possibilities of applying the Mediation institute in the resolution of conflicts as an effective means, enabling the development of Tourism in Protected Areas of Amapa, identifying the capacity and/or incapacity of tourism management to improve the quality of life of the host populations and boost the economy of local communities. Regarding the methodological nature of the research, it is a Descriptive-Exploratory Study, with a qualitative-quantitative approach. The locus of this research will be the Conservation Units in the State of Amapa with tourism practices, where a proposal for conflict mediation will be carried out. Regarding the techniques, documentary and bibliographic research will be carried out, as well as field studies with exploratory, semi- structured interviews and virtual research with tourism managers from federal, state and municipal agencies in the state of Amapa, as well as representatives of traditional communities, with analysis and use of graphs and the Likert scale in some questions. The expected results are: a) To identify the Conservation Units in the state of Amapa and which of them develop tourism practices; b) To analyze the conditions of tourism governance in the Conservation Units of Amapa and diagnose which ones present conflicts associated with tourism; c) To verify the challenges and possibilities of conflict resolution in the development of tourism activities in protected areas of Amapa. Our hypothesis is that the application of the Mediation institute in the resolution of socio-environmental conflicts in protected areas can be an effective path, enabling the sustainable development of tourism activities, assisting in the conservation of the environment and in the management of tourism, improving the quality of life of the host populations and boosting the economy of traditional communities.

Crises are intrinsic elements of global environments related to life in society, which are becoming more intense and notable every day. Having a plural, cross-border and interdisciplinary nature, these are expressed in tourism through critical events and situations that threaten and redefine the dynamic logic of destinations, imposing on the different actors involved the task of assuming positions and strategies that consider social and political action focused on specific management processes. Based on these aspects, and in light of the assumptions of Complexity Theory, this thesis focused on understanding how the actors involved in the context of tourism articulate themselves in the face of the development and occurrence of crises. Having as the universe of investigation the tourist destination of Pipa, Tibau do Sul (RN), and the analysis strand in the socio-environmental field, the methodological approach of the research was based on the following set of qualitative methods: 1) Bibliographic review (Proknow-c technique); 2) Secondary data research (survey of news on the tourism and environmental context, with the time frame from 2000 to 2023, also applied in stage 3); 3) Documentary research (local public policies, projects and social initiatives); and 4) Semi-structured and in-depth interviews (focused on four distinct groups of participants, i.e. residents, local government, private sector and third sector). The analysis of the information obtained was based on content analysis, using the Atlas Ti (versions 23 and 24) and Gephi (version 0.10) software, as well as descriptive analysis. The research results show the following interconnected scenarios: Pipa has lost its essence and original identity, so that the management of the destination is disproportionate to its growth. There is a strong lack of understanding of the complexity of local problems, an aspect that reinforces the continuous and excessive exploitation of the space, sidelining the needs of the destination and its stakeholders. The genesis of local crises is directly correlated with their historical process, with 12 types of internal crises being identified, both gradual and sudden in nature. The articulation/collaboration between the groups investigated is still significantly limited, exposing weaknesses in tourism governance in crisis contexts. Finally, it was found that despite specific preventive actions, the way in which the destination deals with crises in tourism constitutes a considerably reactive approach. A model for classifying tourism crises was presented as a product of the thesis, as a tool that can assist in the development of crisis management processes in the destination of Pipa.
