The Teacher Education Degree in Visual Arts was created in 2005 as a result of the division of the Art Education course into four new courses: Visual Arts, Dance, Design, and Theater, within the Department of Arts. Its objective is to enable professionals qualified to teach and mediate visual arts in their various languages and perspectives (contemporary, historical, poetic, heritage, among others). These professionals can work in basic education schools (elementary and high school) or in non-formal educational spaces, such as art schools, NGOs, museums, galleries, and cultural centers. Considering the training and experience acquired in the course, graduates will also be able to develop different activities related to the production, promotion, management, curatorship, consulting, and research in visual arts, working as an artist independently or within public and private institutions focused on art and culture. The program aims to develop the student's perception, reflection, critical thinking, and creative potential through theoretical and practical classes. The curriculum is composed of curricular components and activities that are articulated along three axes: 1) Experimentation and Production; 2) Reflection, Theory, and Research; and 3) Theory and Pedagogical Practice, inseparably linking teaching, research, and outreach program.
