The decade that chemists and chemical engineers seek alternative and processes to convert and/or produce value-added molecules from industrial waste. Glycerol is a biomass from the biodiesel industry, in the soap industry that has been growing increasingly with the incentive of renewable energies aiming at synthesis with atom economy and meeting the 7 principles of green chemistry reduce the consumption of resources and use the that clays were chosen and modified to be used in the conversion of glycerol in order to obtain the various products in the pharmaceutical industry, in fine chemistry. In this work, clay-based materials were prepared, with modifications by the processes of pilarization and ion exchange by acid, were characterized by several techniques: X-ray fluorescence (FRX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), evaluated by TG and DTG thermal and kinetic studies for glycerol conversion. It was verified that there was the modification by the pillarization and the acid attack suffered dislude of impurities presents in the clays, it was observed the increase of the areas of BET, showing efficiency of the modification process. The higher thermal stability was observed by natural clay, so the treatment made the clays less stable, it was verified the acid clay presented lower activation energy. Thus, showing that the modifications generate more promising catalysts.
