SUMMARY:

The dry reforming of methane process (DRM) is a technology that uses the two main greenhouse gases (CH4 and CO2) for the production of sygas (H2 and CO) or qualifications for various industrial applications in addition to hydrogen being considered a source of clean energy, giving it high commercial value. Nickel-based catalysts supported on alumina using the Mg, Mn, Ce and P promoters in order to be tested in the DRM process were prepared using the microwave assisted combustion synteshis and sequential impregnation using nitrates and phosphoric acid as precursors and urea as fuel for synthesis. The prepared materials were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to elucidate the phases in each catalyst and evaluate the influence of promoters on the material structure, spectroscopy in the infrared region with Fourier transform (FTIR) to prove the presence of phosphorus in the catalyst and evaluate a species in which it is found, reduction at the programmed temperature (TPR) to evaluate the reduction profile of each materials and in-situ X-ray diffraction using a synchrotron radiation source to analyze a structural variation during activation and catalytic reactivity testing. The results indicated that successive steps of solubilization and calcination in alumina resulting from the sequential impregnation method cause alterations generating different metaphases of Al2O3 for support, catalyst without the presence of a promoter and catalyst after the addition of the promoter. It was observed that the presence of Mn as well as Mg generates a mixed oxide phase between the active and promoter phase, while phosphorus facilitates the reduction processes during the catalytic activation stage. The Ce promoter acted by inhibiting the formation of Ni classes on the support surface, suggesting the best dispersion of the active phase. All synthesized materials resistant to the effects of sintering due to high temperatures. The initial results indicate that the materials containing promoter have potential for the dry methane reform test as they are able to supply and improve the deficiencies in the Ni / Al2O3 catalyst.
