RESUMO:

Due to the increase in energy demand and pollution problems caused by the use of fossil fuels, the development of alternative fuels as well as other sources of clean and renewable energy has become necessary. Therefore, biodiesel has been consolidating as an excellent alternative. To obtain biodiesel it is necessary an alcohol, and a catalyst. The CaO has been highlighted due to the low cost and high activity, but its activity is caused by calcium ions in the polar phase that undergoes leaching. Thus the doping with metals has been investigated, aiming to improve its activity. This study investigates the addition of titanium oxide to calcium oxide and the use of mixed oxide, CaO-TiO2 , as the basic heterogeneous catalyst in transesterification from cottonseed oil (Gossypium hirsutum L.) to obtain Biodiesel. These CaO-TiO2 mixed oxide catalysts were prepared by the conventional solid state method in different Ca: Ti molar ratios, calcined at 800 °C and characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Region Spectroscopy , Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled to X-ray Dispersive Energy (EDS) analysis and N 2 Adsorption Surface Area analysis. The catalysts obtained were used in the reaction with methanol: oil molar ratio of 20:1, 10% of the amount of catalyst; and the temperature of 60 oC for 5h. The best catalyst was determined to be 0.25Ca-0.75Ti, considering its catalytic activity, since it obtained the highest yield (92.2%), and did not leach calcium. Different calcination temperatures (800, 900 and 1000ºC) of the 0.25Ca: 0.75Ti were tested, besides the variation of synthesis parameters. The best reaction conditions were the methanol / oil ratio 20: 1, 10% by weight catalyst at 60 ° C for 6 hours reaction for the catalyst 0.25Ca: 0.75 Ti - 800, calcined at 800 ° C, the high conversion rate 94.23%, close to the content allowed by ANP 45/2014 (96.5%) and the anti-leaching and reuse ability. Therefore, the mixed oxide CaO-TiO2 has a great potential for obtaining biodiesel, and the conditions of obtaining can still be improved.
