RESUMO:

Due to the increase in energy demand and pollution problems caused by the use of fossil fuels, the development of alternative fuels as well as other sources of clean and renewable energy has become necessary. Therefore, biodiesel has been consolidating as an excellent alternative. This study investigates the use of CaO-TiO2 mixed oxides, as solid-base catalysts in the transesterification, from cotton oil (Gossypium Hisutum) to obtain Biodiesel. These CaO-TiO2 mixed oxide catalysts were prepared in different molar ratios of Ca:Ti (0.75Ca:0.25Ti, 1Ca:1 Ti and 0.25Ca:0.75Ti) calcined at 800 °C and characterized by X-ray Diffraction X-ray diffraction (XRD), Spectroscopy in the Infrared Region with Fourier Transform (FTIR), Thermogravimetry (TG), Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)  coupled with the analysis of X-ray Dispersive Energy (ESD) and Surface area Analysis of Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The catalysts obtained were tested in the following reaction parameters: methanol: oil molar ratio of 20:1, 10% of the amount of catalyst; and the temperature of 60 oC for 5h. The best catalyst was determined to be 0.25Ca-0.75Ti, considering its catalytic capacity, o it obtained the highest yield (92.2%), and did not leach calcium. Different temperatures of calcination (800, 900 and 1000ºC) of 0.25Ca:0.75Ti were tested, as well as the variation of synthesis parameters as the percentage of catalyst (5, 10 and 15%), the molar ratio methanol (10:1 20:1 and 30:1), the temperature (30, 60 and 90°C) and time (2 to 6h). The best reaction conditions were a methanol/oil ratio of 20:1, 10% by weight catalyst at 60 °C for 6 hours of reaction for the catalyst 0.25Ca:0.75Ti-800, calcined at 800°C, the high conversion content of 94.23% and the anti-leaching and re-use ability. Therefore, the CaO-TiO2 mixed oxide catalysts have the potential to obtain biodiesel.
