Imidazole [4,5-f] derivatives of 1-10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione (phend) are of great importance in bioinorganic because of their biological properties, such as DNA cleavage and its antibacterial potential, as well as its synthetic versatility, it allows the inclusion of groups that will enhance its biochemical characteristics. In this context, the present work has the objective of synthesizing and characterizing new copper complexes with phenanthroline derivatives having isoniazid (INH) as an additional ligand. Thus, cis-[Cu(L)Cl2] and cis-[Cu(L)(INH)2]Cl2, where synthesized L being phend and imidazole derivatives obtained from the phend reaction with 4-cyanobenzaldehyde and 4-nitrobenzaldehyde, referenced to L-CN and L-NO2. Ligands and complexes were synthesized from adapted methodologies based on similar compounds described in the literature and characterized by spectroscopic (Uv-Vis, IV and Raman) and electrochemical techniques. The vibrational spectra it was possible to verify the C=O stretches of the phend ligand and the main modes of the imidazole present in the ligands L-CN and L-NO2, in addition, it was possible to determine that INH ligand was coordinated bidentately. The electron spectra in DMSO showed the intraligant bands in the region of 200 to 400 nm and the d-d transitions in 767, 741 and 732 nm for the complexes cis-[Cu(phend)Cl2], cis-[Cu(L-CN)Cl2] and cis-[Cu(L-NO2)Cl2] respectively. For complexes with a INH ligand as d-d bands were observed in the regions 760, 721 and 719 nm for cis-[Cu(phend)(INH)2]Cl2, cis-[Cu(L-CN)(INH)2]Cl2 and cis-[Cu(L-NO2)(INH)2]Cl2 respectively, moreover, the following relationship was found ligand field unfolding Cl- < INH < phend < L-CN < L-NO2. In addition, the cyclic voltammograms of cis-[Cu(L)Cl2] complexes showed just the one redox pair indicative of the Cu2+/Cu+ process, however, with the replacement of the chlorides by INH it was possible to verify two redox pairs Cu2+/Cu+ and Cu+/Cu0 processes.
