The study for obtainment of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalized with bioactive molecules has been verified to be very relevant to the development of new approach for treatment of cancer. This work describes the synthesis of AuNPs functionalized with two quinoxaline derivatives (DEQX and OAQX) verified to active against cancer cells. For the obtainment of the DEQX- and OAQX-based AuNPs, glycerol was applied as main reducing agent. The AuNPs were characterized by UV-Vis and infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopic methods, besides transmission electronic microscopy (TEM). The optimization of the synthetic step in the obtainment of the AuNPs was perfomed by UV-Vis, in which a relation between Au3+ and ligands were found to be 1:0.2 and 1:0.6 for DEQX and OAQX, respectively, always strong basic media in the presence of large excess of glycerol. In those situations, AuNPs with 9.7 and 11.5 nm were obtainment for for the protocols involving DEQX and OAQX respectively. The mechanism of AuNPs formation was proposed on the light of experimental results, and seems to involve an initial coordination of the referred ligands to Au3+ previously to the reduction step. The fact that the band set at approximately 525 nm (typical of 10 nm AuNPs) has been found increasing and being better defined in function of the time corroborate to this proposal.  Lastly, the AuNPs were found considerably stable when pH was changed close to physiological values. In general, the results showed the more efficiency of DEQX in relation to OAQX in the stabilization of the AuNPs. The results obtained in this work have indicated the spherical AuNPs functionalized with biological active compounds DEQX and OAQX  were obtained, leading to the possibility of applications of these systems for medical proposes, especially for cancer treatment.
