AMIA: a monitoring tool of adverse reactions in patients during chemotherapy

Cancer is one of the main causes of death in the world, with chemotherapy being one of the most frequently used treatments. Despite its effectiveness in eliminating cancer cells, this approach negatively impacts healthy cells, triggering considerable side effects, both physical and psychological. 

Therefore, it is common to develop some degree of depression and abandon treatment, making the development of support strategies for patients crucial. 

Coping with these symptoms at home is challenging for patients, especially considering the scarcity of tools in Brazilian Portuguese that offer support. In this context, the proposal to develop the AMIA tool arises, a chatbot that uses a structured dialogue based on a flowchart prepared by a medical team from the League Against Cancer. Patients can choose pre-defined symptoms and receive corresponding guidance. 

Additionally, the tool allows patients to enter free text, using natural language processing to identify symptoms and offer appropriate guidance based on a previous list of symptoms with their respective management strategies. The proposal aims to improve the quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment, 

enabling more effective self-management of adverse symptoms in their daily environment.
