1. THE PROGRAM
The Graduate Program in Software Engineering (PPgSW) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), linked to the Digital Metropolis Institute (IMD), offers the Professional Master's Degree in Software Engineering (MPES). The MPES aims, through the provision of the regular Stricto Sensu Professional Master’s Degree Program in Software Engineering:
I – to promote the training and qualification of professionals to guide and lead research and development activities through the application of advanced scientific knowledge of the area of software engineering with a view to solving problems related to software development in order to meet the demands of society and of the job market;
II – to promote the integration and interaction with the national and regional productive sector, through the transfer of knowledge (technology, techniques, methods) and generation of innovation (products, services) to assist public and private companies in increasing productivity and improving the quality of their software development activities;
III – to promote the training and qualification of professionals who can undertake and lead the development of innovative software products and systems for the country, in order to meet local, regional and national demands.
MPES has as its area of concentration Software Engineering and the following lines of research:
I - Web Systems Engineering;
The line of research in Web Systems Engineering aims to investigate and develop methods, techniques and tools related to the development of web-based applications with respect to the different software engineering fields.
II – Digital Game Development.
The line of research in Digital Game Development will focus its investigations mainly in the aspects of the games related to the intelligent behavior of the characters of the virtual world, the techniques of human-computer interaction, and new forms of three-dimensional interaction and of application based on the integration between virtual elements and real elements
2. TARGET AUDIENCE
PpgSW’s target audience is professionals who act or are interested in the application of advanced software engineering techniques for solving problems related to software development.
The graduate of the Professional Master in Software Engineering shall be able to propose, develop and lead innovative software development projects through the application of knowledge that reflects the state-of-the-art of different areas of software engineering. The training of this professional will be focused on technological innovation and, for this, it will use procedures and techniques compatible with those used in industries.
3. DURATION / LOAD
The Professional Master in Software Engineering has an average duration of 24 months (2 years), where the first year is dedicated to classes with a minimum workload of 360 hours (equivalent to 12 courses of 30 hours each), with 120 hours of mandatory courses and 240 hours of electives.
The second year is dedicated to the development of a research, and the student must defend a qualification up to the 18th month, and defend his/her final project until the 24th month.
