Energy savings in data center servers: a brief overview of some recent studies.
Energy consumption, data centers, economy, supercomputer.
In the last decade, there has been a large and rapid increase in data traffic around the
world, which consequently results in the need for investments and improvements in data
centers. These are server farms concentrators that do data storage, backup, recovery, data
management, and networking. Due to the increase in processing and the indispensability
of high availability, the energy consumption of these centers becomes huge and expensive,
demanding studies of different strategies configurations in the area. This document presents
some solutions to improve the energy management of data center servers in order
to allow savings in energy consumption and in financial expenses. A supercomputer is
pointed out as an object of study, from which computational and energy consumption
data are collected, generating distinct and comparative analyzes between them. Finally,
will be suggested a strategy to reduce the energy consumption of this equipment as a
proposal for dissertation work.
