SUMMARY:

To meet the constantly changing requirements and needs for new features, informationsystems always remain in a state of constant evolution. The control of the softwareevolution and maintenance process is crucial and one of the most complicated phases ofsoftware development, if this control is not managed, systems are at risk of degradation ofimportant quality attributes that consequently directly affect the degree of maintainabilityof applications. Factors such as inexperience, lack of knowledge and pressure in relation tothe time to complete tasks lead to the adoption of bad practices and are the origin of DesignSmells. In order to obtain a better control of the software evolution and maintenanceprocess, it is important to know how to identify the occurrence of Design Smells inprojects, and new studies indicate that the use of information specific to the context of theapplication, such as the nature of the programs or architectural roles used, can influencethe detection process and the identification of problems that only exist in the studiedcontext. This work carries out a study to identify Design Smells specific to the contextof batch applications, and proposes the definition of a Design Smells catalog and theimplementation of a tool to automate the detection process. The main objective of thiswork is to awaken a critical look in the development teams to the problems defined in the Design Smells catalog and to assist the detection process with the use of the proposed tool.
