SUMMARY:

This thesis has two central themes: dynamic capabilities and new international ventures (INVS). Dynamic capabilities represent for companies mechanisms of rapid response to market demands, as they enable managers to be able to feel the opportunities and threats of the business environment (sensing), capture value from the exploitation of opportunities (seizing) and reconfigure themselves as new demands arise (reconfiguring) (TEECE, 2007; AL-AALI; TEECE, 2014). INVs are small and medium-sized companies that have begun to operate in international markets very close to their foundation or with little time since the beginning of their activities in their domestic market, and therefore contrast with the traditional standard of companies operating in the domestic market for many years and gradually evolve into international trade, as they start with a global vision and develop the necessary capabilities to achieve their objectives (KNIGHT; CAVUSGIL, 2004). In this work it is considered that these capacities constitute dynamic capabilities, which allow companies to develop a proactive strategic posture abroad, ensuring a successful performance in relation to competitors in the new market, making them achieve competitive advantage. The present thesis intends, therefore, to evaluate this relationship, that is, it is intended to analyze the relationship of dynamic capacities with the competitive advantage of INVs in international markets. To this end, a framework is proposed, based on the results of the systematic review by Amorim et al. (2019), in which dynamic capacity variables were identified in INVs (founder/owner characteristics, networks, market orientation, knowledge-based capabilities: learning and absorption capacities, innovation capacity, adaptability and processing and renewal capacities). Therefore, it is intended to analyze the relationship of these variables with the sensing, seizing e reconfiguring capabilities, and consequently their relationship with the competitive advantage of INVs. This is a descriptive research with quantitative approach, whose constructs will be analyzed from a mixed methods approach.
