SUMMARY:

This thesis project has central theme influence of some factors on soccer stadiums attendance in Brazil, as well as the audience choices. The first essay analyzes the impact of new arenas on audience average of twenty-six Brazilian clubs. Preliminary results indicate that team's value, championship relegation and year of 2014, when the World Cup was held in Brazil, were significant to explain stadium attendance. However, it was not statistically significantly affected by new arenas. The second essay aims to measure impact of alcohol permission on fans antisocial behaviors during the Brazilian Championship A and B football matches, from 2013 to 2018. It takes advantage of the fact some municipalities have maintained alcohol permission in stadiums, following the specific agreement for the 2014 World Cup, formalized by the World Cup Law, even if contrary to federal Law. Antisocial behaviors are identified by gambling from what is defined as such by law No. 11,671 / 03. Preliminary results from some logit regression models already elaborated suggest some evidence of significant effect of alcohol permission on antisocial behaviors. It is also intended, for the thesis, to verify to what extent the antisocial behaviors in stadiums cause or not attendance in future matches. The third essay seeks to measure overall efficiencies and attendance and financial divisions of Brazilian soccer clubs and to relate them some variables in a second stage, including the presence of new arenas. Preliminary results show a downward trend in average club efficiency in both divisions over the review period, 2013-2018. In financial efficiency division, among ten top-ranked clubs, six clubs built stadiums or moved to retired stadiums; There was also a honeymoon effect in the attendance efficiency division until 2016. The proposal for the fourth essay aims to analyze which motivations influence the choices of going to the stadium or watching matches on television or streaming.
