GOVERNANCE IN AREAS CONNECTED TO DISCUSS THE CURRICULARIZATION OF UFRPE EXTENSION
Curriculum, extension, governance, connected arenas.
The National Education Plan (PNE) 2014-2024, in its goal 12, strategy 12.7, establishes the
curricularization of extension activities in undergraduate courses of federal higher education
institutions. Curriculum is a process that aims to ensure the inseparability of teaching,
research and extension in federal universities and to promote a link between the latter and
society, enhancing its social relevance. The implementation of extension curricularization is
therefore a complex activity that tends to involve different areas of the university and suggests
a process based on dialogue and interaction between the various actors. Due to this
complexity and interaction, the governance theory will be used to discuss the extension
curricularization process at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). The
governance approach adopted will have a microanalytical perspective and is linked to an
actor-centered analysis of the institution. From the “connected arenas” governance model
proposed by Benz (2007), which establishes four governance regimes: hierarchical, network,
competition and negotiation. Two specific arenas will be studied, the Dean's Office and the
Structuring Teaching Center (NDE) of the two undergraduate courses in administration at
UFRPE. These arenas include the management and the academic, in the curricularization
process. Thus, this research has the general objective: to understand which governance regime
will be constituted from the intended interactions between the presidents of teaching, research
and extension and the NDEs of the undergraduate courses in administration and how it affects
the curricularization process. extension at UFRPE. To achieve this objective, the following
categories of analysis will be used: the motivations / orientations of the actors involved in the
curricularization process, the type of relationship intended between them and the way they
will coordinate their actions, using qualitative research as a method of approach and data
collection documentary research and semi-structured interviews.
