RESUMO:

Innovation has followed the whole process of historical, economic and social evolution of humanity, since ancient times, to the present time the survival of man and his adaptation to the environment in which he lives are related to mankind's capacity to create and transform resources through accumulated knowledge, skills and competences. The incorporation of this logic into the economic and organizational field has generated from the 19st century until the first two decades of the 21st century an intense process of evolution in search of a theory of useful innovation and able to meet the demands of a fast and complex changes environment. In this theoretical quest it is important to highlight the role played by Micro and Small Businesses – MPE's, both globally and nationally, who are responsible for an important part of the generation of riches in both contexts, as well as has becoming the subject of studies on innovations, in a different way from those developed by large corporations. In this way this thesis aims to analyze the effects of innovativeness based on the principles of Total Quality Management – TQM on the generation of multiple innovations in Micro and Small Businesses in the city of Natal/RN. To achieve the proposed objective was carried out a study of predictive character conducted by an analytical survey applied in a sample of 542 (542) Micro and small companies – MPE's located in the metropolitan area of Natal/RN. The quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire with 71 variables that sought to identify the general characteristics of MPE and to capture the effect of innovativeness and the types of innovations developed by the studied companies. The data will be analyzed through descriptive statistics, factorial analysis, canonical correlation and multiple regression, which will allow to reach conclusions, responding to the problem of this research.
