RESUMO:

Once an existence of irrationality in the decision making was verified, numerous studies confirm the occurrence of behavioral biases in the individuals decisions. However, no published studies aimed to minimize the effects of those biases, which represent a gap in the literature. In this sense, the present research aims to investigate the moderating effect of knowledge on decisions, minimizing the effects of behavioral biases, such as: aversion to loss; Mental accounting; endowment effect and anchorage; As well as the influence of socioeconomic characteristics. This is a descriptive, quantitative research, developed from a quasi-experiment conducted through research. In order to transmit financial knowledge to the experiment participants, the results can be consulted on the subject and the forms on the subject before and after the exhibition, in order to verify the existence of change in the behavior of the individuals, after the knowledge of the biases. The samples are non-probabilistic, one of the them was produced with the participation of the UFRN's students of the extension course in finance (288 valid observations) and others. The other sample was composed by students of the undergraduate course in Accounting Sciences of UFRN. The cross tabulation technique was used, having as statistical significance verifier the McNemar test, considering this is the most suitable test for "before and after" studies. The results pointed to the minimization of effects for most of the variables of loss aversion and mental accounting errors and for some anchorage errors. However, a minimization of the effect of the allocation was not statistically significant. Therefore, the present research presents indications of minimizing the effects of behavioral behaviors with a science of individuals on their existence, confirming their central hypothesis. However, for this sample, the effects did not present persistence over time.
