RESUMO:

Based on the market’s increasing dynamism and competitiveness, an appropriate strategy becomes an essential element for the organizations to survive. In this way, acquiring competitive advantage towards its competitors represents an increasingly complex and necessary factor, making the organizations’ resources characterize themselves as key elements in this process. Then, knowing them and, above all, understanding them becomes primal. However, despite the models created to understand the generation of competitive advantage from the resources, it is notable that not every organization works on the same way, so the main resources that generate competitive advantage are not the same for all organizations. Thus, an in-depth and targeted study is required for each type of organization. Knowing that, this research uses the single case study strategy to test the viability of the VRIO model in an Administration’s Postgraduate Program of a public institution from the point of view of its own Professors, applying data collection, intensive direct documentation through systematic observation and extensive direct documentation through the application of a structured questionnaire with closed and open questions.
