SUMMARY:

This research aims to identify a possible stylization and originality from the execution of Brazilian rhythms in odd metrics, more specifically in samba and frevo, present in drummer Nenê's creative process. We also intend to present a discussion about the rhythms: samba and frevo, and their variations according to the musician's performance, in order to compare how Nenê performs these rhythms in odd metrics. Realcino Lima Filho, known as “Nenê”, is one of the most renowned drummers in Brazil, accompanied by musicians such as Hermeto Paschoal and Egberto Gismonti. With nearly 60 years of career, Nenê has an outstanding musical curriculum and experience in the field of Brazilian instrumental music. Always looking to improve with respect to musical practice, the musician is constantly changing. To date, we have transcribed, performed and analyzed two songs by Nenê: “O contorno da cidade”, a samba in a ternary measure and “Sete na Praça”, a frevo in a seven beat, both from the Suite Curral album D'el Rey, 1997. The themes and their respective re-exhibitions were transcribed.
