SUMMARY:

This work presents a methodological proposal for the construction of the performance of the Four
Portuguese Sonnets for voice and piano by Danilo Guanais - composed between 2017 and 2018. The
Brazilian composer (Danilo Guanais, 1965) chooses Sonnets in Portuguese with three Brazilian poets
of northeastern origin, namely Ariano Suassuna (1927-2014) and Augusto dos Anjos (1884-1914) both
born in Paraíba, and Alex Nascimento, born in Natal- RN, valuing our local culture. The first Sonnet
of the cycle is by Luiz Vaz de Camões who is considered the father of Portuguese language. We will
make a literary study of each Sonnet showing its form and structure with respect to music. We will
present interpretative subsidies that help the development for the preparation and execution of the Four
Portuguese Language Sonnets. To this end, rehearsals of the work were performed with the pianist
teacher Dr. Maria Clara Gonzaga for the deepening andappropriation of the elements that will guide
the musical performance. It is a work that seeks its especially northeastern Brazilian roots in line with
the precepts of armorial music. It is hoped that this study contributes to a better understanding of the
analyzed repertoire and propose solutions to their eventual difficulties of interpretative order and also
from the technical point of view.
