RESUMO:

This text presents some of the partial results of the research named “Planning of practice sessions by guitar students: analysis and propositions on a forgotten theme”, that is been developed at the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Música of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil. The material exposed here offers a contextualization and the main themes of the research, pointing out the principal theoretical contributions and reporting some of the partial results. The research has as the general objective to understand the relationship between the planning of study habits - specifically the contents and objectives to be studied during a practice session - and the learning of the performance. Based on the theoretical concepts of deliberate practice (ERICSSON, KRAMPE; TESCH-ROMER, 1993), selfregulation (LEON-GUERRERO, 2008) and conservatoire education (CERQUEIRA; ZORZAL; ÁVILA, 2012), a case study, whose the investigated population was composed by the guitarists students of Bachelor of Music course of the UFRN (N = 7), was undertaken, utilizing the analysis of the results collected by the application of a series of interviews with the students. The partial results provide a diagnosis about the study habits of the investigated population, and point to a low incidence of the use – by the students – of any planning strategies for their practice sessions. It was observed too the adoption of practice routines based on the conservatoire model, that is still prevailing in the universities of Brasil. In effect, it was possible to conclude by the need to expand the discussions about the teaching and learning of performance among college students, particularly with respect to the study habits of the students.
