SUMMARY:

Introduction: Autistic Spectrum Disorder is a condition that has affected one in every 160 children in the world, according to WHO data. Its early identification makes it possible to initiate interventions that may favor better child growth and development. In the Family Health Strategy, through actions such as monitoring growth and development, health professionals can contribute to this identification and early intervention to improve child development. Objective: To analyze the care of children with ASD in the ESF. Method: This is an exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The research was carried out in the municipality of Jucurutu, Rio Grande do Norte, which has an estimated population of 18,295 thousand inhabitants and 09 ESF linked, 04 of which in the rural area. The research participants were professional nurses and physicians linked to the teams. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals. In the second stage, a training meeting was held on the identification of ASD in primary care. Results: 9 nurses and 7 doctors participated in this research. In the qualitative analysis carried out from the interview with the professionals, three categories of analysis emerged: consultation to monitor the growth and development of the child in the PHC; Care given to children with suspected or diagnosed ASD in the PHC and care network; and, finally, knowledge and training of health professionals to care for children with ASD. The second stage consisted of a training meeting with the participation of 36 professionals, including: physicians, nursing professionals, oral health teams and community health agents. The meeting lasted 04 hours and addressed the following theme: Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Child Health in the municipality of Jucurutu. Final Considerations: It is observed that professionals from the Family Health Strategy in the municipality of Jucurutu report little experience in the early identification of ASD and in the monitoring of these children by the ESF. There is a need for permanent health education actions that can contribute to the qualification of care in PHC, especially with regard to children with ASD.
