SUMMARY:

In Brazil, the increase in life expectancy and the aging of the population, associated with high rates of non-communicable chronic conditions, have provided an increase in the demand for palliative care, which is essential for the quality of life of the person and their families in the face of threatening diseases the continuity of life. Thus, since palliative care according to the WHO definition does not necessarily have a relationship with the end of life, but rather with the improvement of quality of life, primary care has an important role in this, not only in the curative processes , but also in palliative processes. This model of care must be continued not only in the hospital environment, but mainly in primary care. Therefore, the objective of this study will be to analyze the knowledge of primary care professionals about palliative care and its use in the work context. This is an explanatory study, with a qualitative approach, where data collection will be carried out through a semi-structured interview with health professionals of technical and higher education registered at the CNES in the city of Arez/RN. For the analysis of the data resulting from the transcribed interviews, Bardin's thematic content analysis will be used. It is expected from this study, to identify the knowledge of health professionals of the Family Health Strategy on Palliative Care in the perspective of proposing a permanent education plan on the subject in the context of Primary Care in the city of Arez/RN.
