SUMMARY:

Prenatal care is a health service that aims to ensure the healthy development of pregnancy and enable the birth of a healthy baby. Such adequate care and the qualification of childbirth care are important determinants of health indicators related to mother and baby. From this perspective, quality assessment processes in health services are necessary and important to identify weaknesses and list proposals for decision making by management and professionals. In this sense, this study aims to evaluate the quality of prenatal care performed by family health professionals in the municipality of Tangará/RN. For this, a descriptive and exploratory study will be carried out, of basic nature of the evaluation type with a quanti-qualitative approach. The research will be guided by two stages: method of systematic observation of each Basic Health Unit (BHU), followed by semi-structured interviews with the professionals and systematic observation of the cards of the previous pregnancy, followed by semi-structured interviews with puerperae. Prenatal care will be classified by the IPR Prenatal index in terms of structure, process and results, based on the Donabedian theoretical reference. For data analysis, descriptive analysis will be used using SPSS software and content analysis. The project is awaiting opinion after submission to the Ethics Committee of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.It is expected that this research contributes to the reflection of professionals and managers of the municipality in order to improve and strengthen prenatal care, guiding the practice of these professionals in a humanized and comprehensive care, thus generating a better quality care to pregnant women and consequently leading to improved indicators related to prenatal care in PHC.
