RESUMO:

Child health care is a target of concern for politicians, managers and health professionals. Objective: To analyze the quality of child health care in Brazil, from the external evaluation of the Access and Quality Improvement Program - Primary Care (PMAQ-AB). Method: This is a cross-sectional study that had as unit of analysis all health teams in Brazil evaluated by PMAQ-AB. Quality was measured in three dimensions, each generating a quality indicator: resoluteness, work process and infrastructure. External evaluation quality criteria were chosen for the dimensions mentioned above, which were weighted by the Item Response Theory (IRT) technique, which considers its discriminatory power.Child health care is a target of concern for politicians, managers and health professionals. Objective: To analyze the quality of child health care in Brazil, based on the external evaluation of the Access and Quality Improvement Program - PMAQ-AB. Method: This is a cross-sectional study that had as a unit of analysis all health teams in Brazil evaluated by ItFo was created the indicator of quality of child health through the grouping of the assessed dimensions, both the indicator and the dimensions were classified as good, fair or bad. The quality of child health care was analyzed in relation to its association with a contextual indicator, the HDI, based on multilevel Poisson regression, with significance of 5%. Results: It was evidenced poor quality in child health care in Brazil, however it is observed that both nationally and in Brazilian regions, child health care can be resolute, also shows a deficit in the development of the process of child health. work focused on child health care, and in relation to infrastructure, there is a prevalence of good quality, highlighting the Northeast region with the largest number of teams with good infrastructure. Conclusions: The study demonstrating that child health care in Brazil is still below expectations and that the performance of PHC services should be improved by strengthening the work process component.
