Climate change is an increasingly frequent subject in today's society, with greater media coverage in the last ten years. However, it is a very complex, multidisciplinary topic that involves dense scientific data and is not always dealt with in school or in the traditional media. In this context, education plays a fundamental role in confronting climate change, contributing to public engagement and to the successful implementation of public policies on this theme. The present work approaches the study of climate change, directing the theme to a teaching proposal with illustrations. The objective of this work is to propose the elaboration and validation of a teaching sequence based on the theory of significant learning for the insertion of the social scientific issue in the generation of critical knowledge about climate change in basic education. The work consists of the elaboration of an illustrated booklet that will be validated by experts on climate change using the Delphi method. After the validation process, the booklet will be applied to elementary school students of a state school in Nova Cruz/RN. Questionnaires will be used in order to identify the students' previous conceptions about climate change. Afterwards, the booklet will be applied according to a specific didactic sequence and a new round of questionnaires will be applied to evaluate the acquired knowledge. It is expected that such methodological application used in the process of building the concepts of climate change, arouse interest in studying the concepts addressed and provide active participation of students in the construction/development of knowledge.
