SUMMARY:

Ozone (O3) is very important for the planet, as it is a natural gas that filters the sun's ultraviolet radiation and thus reduces the harmful effects of type B ultraviolet radiation (UV-B) that reach Earth. a protective shield and hence the importance of studying stratospheric O3. The study aims to identify the modes of seasonal and interannual variability of ozone in Natal, using vertical ozone profile data on mixing ratio from the SHADOZ network station and observed data from ERA5 for 2 years of data (1998-2018) to height of 29 km. With the calculation of climatologies and wavelet analysis and comparing ozone anomalies with climatic indices and discovering how the variability behaves. It was possible to observe that in the monthly series 1998-2018 for the heights from 0 to 30 km of SHADOZ, there are peaks with higher intensities of O3 in the range of 27 to 30. The climatology for these same heights shows that the highest concentrations were between February and April and the lowest between May and July with a high standard deviation between 25 and 30 km. The anomaly profile shows that they increase and decrease every two years, with some years stronger. The trend of O3 from SHADOZ and ERA remained in the series studied at 29km, with low variability over time and it was observed in the relative monthly differences that SHADOZ in relation to ERA 5 R2 was high (0.80), with an RMSE of 6% , underestimation of ERA5 in relation to SHADOZ (1.69% ± 13.7%) and MABE with a value of 7.42% ± 13.7%. It was observed that in the Hovmöller diagram the monthly and annual evolution of O3 of ERA5 for the years 1979 to 2018 in 29km, where from July to November the ozone maximums occur, highlighting that for 85/86, 95 and 2015 and the minimums from March to June, with greater intensity between the years 2009 and 2011. A seasonal variability was identified with higher values in the months of August, September and October. The climatology of SHADOZ and ERA5 (98/18) in 29km and ERA5 from 1979 to 2018, showed that the three series had their maximum between the months of February and March and September and October and the minimum between May and July, with a cycle semi-annual set. The wavelets and comparison of O3 anomalies with climatic indices for SHADOZ and ERA5 at 29km showed that the quasi-biennial oscillation has a greater influence on O3, ENSO and Solar flux do not influence O3 in Natal.
