SUMMARY:

Tourism is a sector that impacts the economy of countries, generating income and jobs. Governments are already aware of this, a fact that makes them have a closer look at the sector, in Mozambique, tourism was elected one of the 4 pillars of development. However, for this to be effective, several aspects must be considered, among them communication and promotion. Information and communication in tourism is like the fuel for the industry, because the destination can only be known, visited if it is publicized. OBJECTIVE: It is in this context that the present thesis proposal intends to analyze how the formulation and implementation of communication and promotion strategies are configured in an effort to elevate and qualify Mozambique as an attractive and relevant international tourism destination. METHODOLOGY: It adopts a methodology that helps to study the functioning of the system of elaboration of communication and promotion strategies that aim to publicize the country as an international tourism destination and its implications. The documental research allows to list the theoretical aspects of these strategies, followed by a field research, seeking to understand from the makers of these strategies the whole process of their elaboration, through a semi-structured interview with the tutelary bodies of the area, as well as with the other actors, such as public and private associations and tour operators. Non-participant observation is also applied, in order to understand whether the strategies and actions defined are being applied in the areas chosen as priorities for the development of tourism. A questionnaire is also applied to international tourists who visit the country to understand the mechanisms they used to get to know the destination as well as their suggestions for improvement for a more efficient and effective communication, taking into account that this is the main target of these strategies. EXPECTED RESULTS: It is expected with this study, to know how the country strategically positions itself in relation to the internationalization of tourism, through the use of plans, actions and advances in the communication and promotion process with a view to reaching a better level in the competitive international tourism market. In this sense, the Conceptual Framework of the decisive factors and elements of how to plan and establish communication and promotion strategies for an international tourism destination is configured.
