RESUMO:

The rural environment in Brazil, particularly in the Northeast, has presented in the last years changes that are related to the provision of services, housing, leisure and tourism. It can be seen that the more cities present problems of various kinds, such as violence, heavy traffic, poor quality of life, the rural environment is projected as a tranquil place: the escape from urban chaos. The inhabitants of the cities come to perceive the rural environment as a place of leisure, rest and encounter with nature. It is in this context that activities of second home, tourism and leisure begin to appropriate the rural environment as a product, creating new spaces, structures, mobility to attract this demand. The rural environment is refunctionalized, urbanized, modernized to attract a specific demand, emerging as an important leisure area. In this scene, it can be seen that rural gentrification can be related to the different participation of social classes and their influence on the rural community of the destination. The arrival of new social groups provokes a process of social elitism and also a territorial ennoblement, generating the alienation (marginalization) of these first inhabitants. It is hereby admitted that we relate the theory of gentrification to profitability and to the increase in assets due to real estate renovation. And in the same sense, it is also linked to the change in social composition, suggesting a certain elitism resulting from these new social structures created as a result of the arrival of immigrants, second home users, visitors and / or tourists. This movement tends to provide a revitalization and the generation of a new economic dynamism in the rural area. It is questioned about the possible contributions of the activities of second home, tourism and leisure in relation to promotion of the rural environment of Gravatá-PE, under the focus of the gentrification processes. It seeks to understand these new interpretations to the rural world, generating an ennoblement and elitism, including the interaction between the phenomenon of the second residence and the activities of tourism and leisure. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of urbanization and gentrification triggered by leisure and tourism activities in the rural area of Gravatá-PE. It is intended to recognize signs of rural gentrification and the interaction with tourism and second residence. For the development of this study, it is proposed to use a qualitative data approach. The research will include a bibliographical survey, data collection in government agencies, documentary analysis, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires for data collection, participant observation and content analysis. It also proposes a statistical and cartographic treatment, using resources such as: demography, income, housing.
