SUMMARY:

This research addresses the buffoonish state in the poetics of the stage, reflecting on the place of the buffoon in society, based on the meaning of the term, as well as discussing issues related to ethics in the buffa performance, when rubbing layers of mocking laughter, linking it to the historical and social recognition of these figures. Based on a review of the techniques developed by the French pedagogues Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier, it looks at some implications for creative processes, discussing the construction and play of the buffoons in the play Ubu Rei ou a revolta dos coadjuvantes (2018-2022), by Teatro Bissexto (Recife), a theater group which I am a member. We will reflect on the specificities of the state and of buffoonish corporeality in its comic, playful and grotesque dimension, establishing a dialog with other stagings of Alfred Jarry's play, Ubu Rei, and with other performances with a buffonesque bias, as well as with other researchers. This work is a cartographic journey (Rolnik, 1987; 1998), a composite of crossings and exchanges of affections, which also relies on the theoretical contribution of Bakhtin (2010), Bergson (2018), Kayser (2013), Lopes (2005; 2017), Minois (2003), among others.
