SUMMARY:

The dissertation in question is a procession of Maracatu in the path that praises black culture, proposes laboratories entitled Maracatucar, in a perspective of “catucar” (drawing attention) of dancers from the group Cinese and you, dear reader, on racial issues, generating, therefore, a discussion around Maracatu as an instrument of black struggle, as a popular dance of African origin, quite present, in fact, in our northeastern culture. The study aims to highlight the possibilities, existing in studies in the field of dance as a language, to obtain recognition about being a black body in society and how this reflects in the social context. Regarding the methodology, it is a literature review and case study research that is based on the studies of Choreology by Rudolf Laban (1990) and on Dance/Art by the Senses of Patrícia Leal (2012). It is intended, therefore, to problematize racial issues, through experimentation and creation, leading to reflection on Maracatu, a cultural expression that echoes in itself the struggle of the black people.
