The dissertation seeks to analyze the scene and the gender significances of the Maracatu Rural, an artistic expression present in the municipality of Nazaré da Mata - Pernambuco, with a focus on the maracatu group of women, titled Coração Nazareno (2004). The dissertation brings to light the aspects of the scenic and aesthetic dimensions (characters / figures, costumes, masks, music, dance, textualities), which define the Maracatu Rural as an 'artistic expression of the people'. The work also covers the dimensions of the ritualistic aspects, sacredness and spirituality present in the Rural Maracatu, starting from the studies of Turner (1974) and Lyra (2005) about the ritual and sacred elements in the performance scene. In the discussion of gender, it seeks to analyze and understand the places occupied by the women of the group and the consequent resignifications of the relations involving gender and power, caused in particular by the performance of the spear cabocla, a re-reading of the spear caboclo, a fundamental figure of the toy, of masculine and patriarchal tradition. Through fieldwork, we sought to understand what spheres are reached by this transgression and resignification proposed by the taking and occupation of women in these new spaces and positions within the tradition. The methodological path used in field research was Artetnografia, a concept developed by Luciana Lyra (2011, 2013, 2015), from its transit between the fields of art and anthropology, and it is suggested that the encounter between artists and contexts of alterity is configured as an intense and subjective contact, covering the tensions and noises fomented by this plot, in order to arrive at the understanding of the systems and organizations of the symbols and meanings of social structures.
