SUMMARY:

The health-disease process of male and female workers is engendered by the work process under capitalism. In this sense, this dissertation shows how the risks that cause wear and tear on workers' workforces, whether physical and/or mental, manifest themselves throughout the working day. This procedure takes place in the context of the class struggle and the transformations in the world of work in its dialectical relationship with the health-disease production process, based on the texts of Marx and the studies of Latin American Social Medicine, but not limited to them, and considering as a context the way in which psychological suffering has been approached in Social Work. The general aim of this study is therefore to contribute to a deeper theoretical understanding of the mental health of male and female workers in the Brazilian Social Service. More specifically, the aim is to: a) Investigate the field of workers' health as a space of theoretical and political dispute in Brazilian capitalism; b) Expose psychological suffering as an expression of the social question based on the developments caused by transformations in the world of work; and c) Analyze the State of the Art of Social Work in relation to the themes of workers' mental health. The research methodology is based on the critical-dialectical method, with a quantitative-qualitative approach, and the use of bibliometric survey techniques of material data on the production of knowledge of Social Work in relation to Workers' Health, plus documentary analysis of reports from development and government agencies. As a result of the analysis, it is clear that pauperism, suffering, madness and suicide are produced dialectically in society, as an expression of a broader and more generalized process of psychological and physical suffering resulting from the increased exploitation of work, which has been intensified by the growing precariousness of the working class.
