SUMMARY:

The project aims to analyze the worsening of the regional issue in the Brazilian Northeast from the implications of the deepening of the fiscal adjustment (2015-2022). Guided by historical-dialectical materialism, the research has a quantitative and qualitative approach, also known as a mixed approach, and will be carried out based on an extensive literature review, data collection from secondary sources and documental survey. The type of content analysis used will be the categorical one, since it is interconnected with the knowledge that one wants to produce in relation to the studied object, based on the selected indicators that will be interpreted in the light of the categories apprehended in the bibliographic studies. The methodological path will be organized in stages of theoretical study with bibliographical studies in the central categories for the intended study, delimitation of regional socioeconomic indicators, with emphasis on those that express the conditions of poverty and inequality in the region, such as unemployment, food insecurity, income available in important research sites such as the IBGE, and in the documentary survey in order to apprehend the limitations imposed by the fiscal adjustment based on the analysis of the Pluri-Annual Plans (2016-2019 and 2020-2023), the Annual Reports of the Fundo Constitucional do Nordeste (FNE ) and the newsletters of the Nordeste Consortium. The stages, however, are not watertight, since the method that guides the present study stands out for a deep investigation into reality that establishes categories and relates and articulates them in a dialectical way, identifying their connections and contradictions. With this, the study aims to contribute to deepen the professional debate in Social Work on the subject, in the reflection on the relationship between fiscal adjustment and the regional issue, focusing on the northeastern reality.
