SUMMARY:

The present research, to which this project refers, aims to investigate the impacts of patriarchal logic in the life and professional performance of female civil engineers, installed in the teaching staff of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and in the field of civil construction in Natal/RN. The method of analysis that will support this research will essentially be based on the historical materialism proposed by Marx, with the purpose of considering the historicity of social processes, investigating them beyond their appearance. The research will be, therefore, of a qualitative nature, based on the assumption that in this way we can better analyze social phenomena that cannot be quantified. It will occur by means of research and bibliographic review, which will permeate the whole process; we will also carry out the semi-structured interview technique, with previously established questions, with six (06) women, with degrees in Civil Engineering, who currently practice the profession, three (3) of these women being active in university teaching at UFRN, and three (3) women active in the construction industry. It is worth mentioning that the interviews will be submitted to the COVID-19 protocols. We evidence that women have been removed from different spheres of the public sphere, as a result of the emergence and rooting of patriarchal relations. Education is, therefore, one of the spaces that have been historically denied to women. As well as the educational processes, the insertion of women in the labor market is also marked by exclusion and professional devaluation. Some activities, considered masculine, have discarded the presence of women for long years, as is the case of Civil Engineering. However, nowadays, the number of women civil engineers has increased significantly, which does not allow us to say that gender oppression in these spaces has disappeared. Thus, we intend with this research, to unveil these processes of prejudice that permeate the daily lives of women in Civil Engineering.
