SUMMARY:

This study has as its main concern to analyze the mental illness of workers and the worker as an expression of the contemporary social question and the possible answers to her taking as reference the reality of the State of Ceará. We start from the assumption that the mental illness of workers is configured as an expression of the contemporary social issue and that there is an assistance gap that puts at risk the health of users, requiring to be dimensioned from the fundamentals of critical social theory considering that the processes of exacerbation of exploitation and alienation are more visible in the new forms of management of the post-Fordist industry the working class has become increasingly vulnerable to mental illness. And, that in the flexible era, mass unemployment and new forms of precarious, unstable and unprotected work directly affect the class that lives from work. These transformations in the world of work already appeared as risk factors for the onset of mental disorders in the working class, however, in the context of labor counter-reform and pandemic,worsens the corrosion of work with even more damaging impacts on their living conditions, directly affecting the increase of mental illness at work and the lack of it. Our hypothesis is that the pandemic has widened the possibilities for new strategies of precariousness and weakening of work bonds, potentiated by a general framework of structural unemployment as an expression of the crisis of accumulation of capital. This requires combining documentary and empirical research of a quanti-qualitative nature, which will take as its field the Health Department of the State of Ceará and its strategic sectors to answer the questions that guide this research project. Data collection will combine bibliographic research, documental research, direct observation, and semi-structured interviews that will be applied to the technical team and coordination of CEREST Ceará and CEREST Fortaleza. Quantitative research will be part of the methodological procedures, given the need to apprehend, treat, and analyze epidemiological and statistical data that characterize the current scenario of the world of work, in order to unveil the binomial mental illness x work, seeking to understand the general expressions of mental illness of the working class in the contemporary Brazilian reality.
