SUMMARY:

This paper analyzes trends in knowledge production about socio-educational measures in Postgraduate Programs in Social Work in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The study of trends aims to identify and problematize changes and permanencies in relation to a given process/object, as the information collected at different times about the same object is not identical, it represents the movement of reality and how these mediate the studied social phenomenon, of this way, signaling trends in the referred production. We sought to problematize which theoretical and methodological perspectives have been structuring this production, as well as which references, central categories, conceptions, types of research and results of these investigations. The two programs that make up the research universe were researched, namely: PPGSS of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and the Postgraduate Program in Social Rights and Social Work of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte. All master's dissertations with the theme of socio-educational measures found in the CAPES Digital Dissertation and Theses Bank were analyzed. For this purpose, a standard reading sheet was created for each work, in order to extract from their content the information relevant to the intended analysis and to have the possibility of carrying out triangulations between the data and undertaking a Quali-Quantitative approach, of this in this way, apprehending the trends of the debate on socio-educational measures in the production of the aforementioned Postgraduate Programs. The analyzes of the collected material were carried out from the theoretical-methodological perspective of historical-dialectical materialism, therefore, considering the categories of totality, contradiction and mediation. As for the collected material, we found that the productions of UFRN are registered between the years 2004 to 2013 and those referring to UERN in the years 2017 to 2019, with a greater number of defenses in the first Program, which is justified by the fact that UFRN's PPGSS is older than the UERN PPGDSSS. With regard to the results, we identified that all the productions deal with a critical aspect on the theme of socio-educational measures, the adolescent offender and the reduction of the penal age, denoting an important ethical-political position in the works. On the other hand, we verified a weakness in the theoretical-methodological rigor in most of the productions, in which gaps regarding the debate on the theory-method unit are evident, especially in older dissertations. Thus, as a trend in the set of analyzed productions, we have a deepening in the debate on the research object specifically - and correlated with the social and strategic direction of the profession - however, regarding the treatment of the intrinsic relationship between theory and method, we identified sensitive gaps.
