SUMMARY:

The present master’s thesis analyzed the Social Workers’ teaching work at Social Work graduation courses at public and private Higher Education Institutions in Rio Grande do Norte, considering its strategies to mantain the professional formation in line with the direction of the Profession’s Ethical-Political-Project. The Social Work teaching has been an area permeated by challenges and limits, which differenciate themselves when we consider their respective configurations, the professors’ employment relationship and the pedagogical demands that emerge at these acting places. At the Public Institutions prevails the Curricular Guidelines of Associação Brasileira de Ensino e Pesquisa em Serviço Social (ABEPSS), while in the context of some private institutions the Guidelines formulated by the Education Ministry, which have a direction that undermine the professional formation and the teaching work. Hence, our research object was the relation between the particularities of the teaching work in the professional formation for the Social Work, while private attributions of Social Workers, and the education strategies that are used to ensure the direction of the Profession’s Ethical-Political Project. The theorical-methodological approach of qualitative research was the dialectical-historical materialism which makes possible to analyze the moviments of reality and its contradictions in a perspective of totality. As to the research techniques it was performed bibliographical survey at the CAPES’s repository, semi-structured interviews and questionnaire application with eight professors from public and private higher education institutions of RN. The research results highlighted that in relation to the fundaments of the Social Work teaching and to the pedagogical fundaments, the professors pointed out the need of discussion during the graduation and the pos-graduation and the existence of courses and other initiatives tha contemplate that debate. Regarding the work conditions at the public and private HEI, they are permeated by the work overload and the precariousness of conditions and working relationship, being the latter situation experienced, especially, at the private sphere. We identified that an element common to the two acting spaces reffers to the devaluation of teaching work at higher education. Because of that, the attendance of pedagogical demands, which relate to the students, to the institution and the profession suffers from the implications of those work conditions, resulting in difficulties to the formulation of qualified answers andin accordance with the Professional Project. In that regard, the pedagogical-political strategies used by the professors of public and private higher educations institutions dialogue, however the private sphere tend to endure more difficulties to the effectuation of those strategies, which are the expression of criativity, commitment and resistance against the capitalist education’s perspective. Therefore, we reaffirm the relevance of the debate about the teaching in Social Work, in view of the current scenario of mercantilization and precariousness of higher education and the need to defend the Profession’s Ethical-Political Project in scope of the formation and the professional work. We conclude that the pedagogical-political strategies constitute as one of the ways to ensure the prfession’s social direction and the fighting for the continuity of higher education with quality and lined up to ABEPSS’s Curricular Guidelines.
