SUMMARY:

The trajectory of the Brazilian Social Service is marked by the crowning of different professional dimensions in different historical moments, marking the process of construction of professional conscience in a somewhat diversified and complex set. For some time, the category consciousness was taken as something evident, as for some theorists its very nature is in “self-understanding”, an attribute by which man can know and judge his own reality, so there would be no need to elucidate its existence. For many others, it was linked to knowledge, to the possibility of human beings to reflect on reality and the individual performance of their acts, mediation that takes place through morals, among several other understandings. However, the concepts, definitions, understandings and theories about consciousness are not limited to these directions pointed out above, on the contrary, we have a set of rational and irrationalist currents dealing with this theme, among them, the Marxian/Marxist tradition, by which part of the affirmation of the unity between consciousness and social being – these two moments of the materiality of being (matter and spirit) form a dialectical unity. Thus, we start from the understanding that consciousness is built within a processuality, as a result of a greater social relationship, it is not something fixed, immutable, it is not a constructed, ready and finished entity, but that it is built in the process of being social, by a set of concrete and abstract mediations, as parts of a social totality. Thus, we can consider professional conscience as one that is a particular way of objectifying human-social conscience, that is, it forms a unity with individual conscience, in which different elements arising from each subject's own life process synthesize, as , under certain conditions, a whole that we can characterize as professional conscience. Departing, therefore, from these premises, from the existence of a process of human-social conscience, and, in the particularity of professions, from the movement to build a professional conscience, we intend in this doctoral research to analyze the professional conscience in the context of Social Work in contemporary times, while construction process/movement, apprehending its historical determinations in the trance of individual conscience to professional conscience. We believe that in times of regressive ideological decay, this decay decisively falls on the individual and professional conscience in a regressive way as well. The construction of this research is linked, through a theoretical-methodological option of the researcher, to the Marxist tradition, since this is the theory capable of apprehending the being of consciousness in its entirety. In the methodological path to be followed, we will use bibliographical research and document analysis. In the bibliographical research, we will base our theoretical-political foundation in the Marxian and Marxist tradition, in view of the adopted method, by which we have more possibilities to apprehend the ontological foundations about the process of construction of professional conscience in the scope of Brazilian Social Work in current times. Our perspective is to analyze the existing productions about what we are considering the process of professional conscience, based on the productions published in the axes: Social Service, Fundamentals, Training and Professional Work; Ethics, Human Rights and Social Service, indexed in the annals of the XVI Brazilian Congress of Social Workers (CBAS) in 2019, considering that this is the largest congress of this professional category, with a focus, for those works that deal with conscience professional, ethics, morals, the ethical-political project of Social Work, and the conservatism present in work and professional training. And, in the process of data construction and analysis, we will use the qualitative approach, which allows us to apprehend this reality, in its multiple determinations.
