SUMMARY:

This work analyzes the merchantability of Higher Education in Brazil, professional qualification in Social Work and extension and/or free courses as a way of precarious teaching. The general objective of this study is to investigate extension and/or free courses and their implications for the quality and legality of undergraduate courses in Social Work. While in the specific objectives, the discussions on the merchantability of education at a higher level in the particularity of Social Work in the Northeast will be deepened; evaluation of corporate determinations for the merchantability and professional qualification in Social Work and analysis of the positioning of the CFESS/CRESS Group and its actions and strategies developed with regard to extension and/or free courses. The study provides an explanation about the formation of universities in the world and national context, permeated by disconnection with the Church, relationship with science and development of university institutions. It also discusses education for critical theory and its limits in a sociability based on the profit and exploitation of the working class and its relationship with the merchantability of education. There is still a debate on the consequences of the merchantability of higher education for Social Work and an analysis on university extension and extension and/or free courses. The work is based on the critical dialectical method and will do the research with a member of each Registration Commission (CI) of the Conselhos Regionais de Serviço Social (CRESSs) of the Northeast, as it was from there that the extension courses and/or free. For this, an online questionnaire will be applied to ascertain the ways of identifying these courses, the referrals given in the act of recognizing the irregularity and the actions and strategies implemented to combat the precariousness of the training. A semi-structured interview will also be held with a legal advisor from one of the regional offices to learn about what has been discussed and implemented about extension and/or free courses in the legal sphere. Therefore, this research seeks to deepen studies on professional training in Social Work, the challenges faced in the context of the merchantability of higher education and the impacts on the profession in relation to extension and/or free courses.
