SUMMARY:

The present research project has as its object of investigation the work of the Social Worker and his insertion as a military, within the scope of the Brazilian Air Force. The scope of this research is to capture the central mediations of the tension between institutional and professional perspectives, and to analyze the limits and possibilities of professional practice in this area of performance. When analyzing the norms for the practice of Social Work within the scope of the Air Force Command, in the context of the correlation of forces between the State and the working class, it is intended to identify the role of the Armed Forces in the relationship between State and Society, as well as the role profession in the institution. Thus, the intention is to decipher a socio-occupational scenario full of conflicts and contradictions through the reflection of the legal framework of the institution, the Social Work, the survey of scientific production on the subject and bibliographical references relevant to the discussion. In this manner, when understanding the advance of conservatism in the face of structural crises of the capitalist system and its consequences in dealing with the expressions of the brazilian social question, there is a need to deepen reflections on professional practice in the most different areas of activity, to reflect on the contemporary challenges of professional project.
