SUMMARY:

This study seeks to apprehend the particularities of the work of social workers in meeting collective demands within collective work processes within the public ministry of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (Portuguese initials- MPRN), particularly those of the Operational Support Centers to the Public Prosecutor's Office (Portuguese initials- CAOP's) The Support Centers have the purpose of advising the prosecutors in meeting the demands of the population. The purpose of the study was to identify and analyze the determinations of insertion and professional performance in the work process of meeting collective demands, within the scope of the MPRN, and its relations with the challenges to the realization of social rights and citizenship and with the new mission and new role conferred on the public ministry, from now on- MP to defend such rights from the 1988 Constitution. In order to make successive approximations to the object of study, it was necessary to use critical social theory and the critical-dialectical method, making it possible to learn universal, singular, and particular elements that surround it and thus, basing the realization of qualitative research of exploratory nature, which was preceded by bibliographic and documentary research. In this perspective, semi-structured interviews were conducted, with 05 (five) social workers working in the MPRN CAOP’s, among which 03 (three) interviews were conducted in person and 02 (two) at a distance, through video calling, because they occur after the decree of the state of public health emergency resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic. Still, without harm to the interaction and data collection at the time of the interview. It was found that between 2018 and 2019, the Social Service in the CAOP'S of the MPRN, met more collective demands than individual ones – 68% collective and 32% individual, revealing that social workers have been acting mainly in meeting collective demands, although there is still a considerable number of individual demands. It is concluded that the centrality of work in collective demands is in line with the redirection of the role and action of the MP in the defense of social rights and implementation of public policies, including the expanded conception of the set of social rights and policies that involves interdisciplinary knowledge and intersectoral articulations. Therefore, as the essence and main focus of work in CAOP's focus on the defense of collective law tends to require professions and knowledge with ample capacity for critical and instrumental analysis to apprehend reality in order to support the performance of promoters. It can be inferred that as the fulfillment of collective demands is expanded and strengthened within the scope of the MPRN, they will increase the possibilities of a necessary and possible expansion of the insertion of Social Workers in the team to collaborate in the production of responses to collective demands. A sign that this implantation has a close relationship with the professional profile and its skills and capacity to act in various public social policies in the perspective of the realization of social rights and citizenship. A strong indicator that the professional training of social workers has given it skills and abilities to respond to the real need of the MP as an institution and that the work is done has contributed to the affirmation of the institutional mission of the MPRN to defend the realization of rights, prioritizing the fulfillment of collective demands because they have a greater impact on the implementation of public policies to affect the rights achieved.
