SUMMARY:

The dissertation project presented here aims to analyze the work of social workers in the territories of Primary Health Care (PHC), based on the reality of the municipality of Mossoró / RN. Thus, it is intended to study the relationship between the territory and the work of social workers at this level of health care, with the intention of discussing how professional work develops in view of the demands, requirements and particularities arising from the territorial space of care primary. It was delimited by studying the professional work relationship and PHC territory due to the understanding that it is through the territory that all health work processes are organized at this level of care, including the work of social workers. In primary health care, the territory is a central category for the work of the different professionals that make up the work teams, because the services and actions that are offered are organized through a territorial base determined geographically in a region or municipality, which express needs in health according to the different locoregional and sanitary realities. Therefore, we start from the assumption that the territory in PHC, as a living, dynamic element, in constant movement, something that produces and reproduces social relations in everyday life, a space where the expressions of the social issue are reflected, in addition to being a a fundamental category for analyzing the health status of social subjects, it is a strategic locus for carrying out the work of social workers in health. However, given the inaccuracies regarding the apprehension of the territory category in contemporary sociability, uncritical interpretations can arise, causing reductionisms about the category, which instead of being understood in a critical, reflective and totalitarian way, ends up being interpreted as a bureaucratic instrument, technicist and functionalist to the implementation of policies, including health. That said, our central research problem focuses on the following question: how is the professional work of social workers expressed and developed in the territories of Basic Health Units (UBS) in the municipality of Mossoró / RN? As theoretical-methodological procedures, we chose to develop a qualitative study, of a bibliographical, documentary and field type, based on historical-dialectical materialism. The study population will be formed by social workers inserted in the UBS in the urban area of Mossoró, in view of a sample of 12 (twelve) professionals, 3 (three) from each health district in the municipality: north, south, east and west . The choice of professionals will be made using the simple random probability sampling technique and the privileged instruments for collecting field data will be the questionnaire and the semi-structured interview. From this, we intend to contribute to the discussion about the work of social workers in Primary Health Care, especially in the work developed in the territories of this level of care. Furthermore, we hope that the study can collaborate with the critical debate, pointing out reflections on this topic in the academic environment, in society, as well as in the professional category.
