RESUMO:

The present paper had as its object of study the cases of femicide in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) in 2016. Our general objective was to analyze the relationship between patriarchy, machismo, racism and femicide as a specificity of macho violence, considering the particularity of RN, which of according to the Atlas of Violence (2018), it is the Brazilian state,  one that records the highest growth of  the murder of women throughout the country, with a percentage of 138.1% between 2006 and 2016, while the country's growth in the same period was 15.3%. Our specific objectives were: to analyze femicide as an expression of patriarchy in the state of RN; analyze the brazilian socio-historical formation and the Democratic Estate of Law in Brazil, from the resurgence of the legislations that deal with the macho violence; know and analyze the socioeconomic profile of potiguar women victims of femicide; and, finally, to know and analyze the socioeconomic profile of women potiguar victims of femicide, whose motivation alleged by the aggressor to the crime was jealousy. For this study, we conducted bibliographic and documentary research. In bibliographical research, we start from the marxian theory that guides the production of materialist feminism and which guided the analyzes performed. For the documentary research, we used the database of the Observatory of Intentional Lethal Violence in the RN (OBVIO). The data of the OBVIO recorded in 2016 one hundred and nine murders of women and of these, twenty-six were recorded as femicide, equivalent to 23.85% of the total. The analyzed cases indicate that, as far as the victims are concerned, most of them are black women (66% of cases), aged between twenty five to thirty-nine years (57.69% cases) and with income of up to 2 minimum wages. The cases were registered in several municipalities of RN, with the state average of 1.61 femicide for every one hundred thousand women. The municipalities in the interior show numbers up to twenty times higher, as is the case of São João do Sabugi which has an average of 33.34 cases of femicide for every one hundred thousand women, and was, therefore, the most violent municipality for a woman to live in the RN. It is concluded, therefore, that patriarchy kills constantly and everywhere in the RN and that the relations of sex, of class and of race / ethnicity are consubstantial and coextensive.
