RESUMO:

This paper aims to analyze the professional practice of the social worker in the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) and its implications in guarantee the rights of the population. For this purpose, it had as its specific objectives: to apprehend and analyze the insertion of the Social Work and its particularities in the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio Grande do Norte; analyze the attributions and competences of the Social Work in the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio Grande do Norte; identify the required demands and the professional responses of the Social Work in the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio Grande do Norte; as well as unveiling the challenges and possibilities posed to the professional practice of the social worker in the MPRN, from the perspective of guarantee the rights of the user population. It is an qualitative exploratory research, guided by the dialectical critical method, which meant an effort to grasp and analyze the object as a moment of totality, that is, as a complex within larger complexes, to which they find themselves articulated. The universe had been made up of 20 social workers. It was used as a criterion to choose the sample: a) to be social worker. b) to belong to the framework of the MPRN; c) to have RN as its area of operation, except for Mossoró and Macau, as they are served by NATE (Mossoró Specialized Technical Support Center) and CAOPs (Operational Support Center for Attorney Office), respectively d) to have as their area of operation the capital do Estado, Natal (RN). We worked with bibliographic research, documentary research and questionnaire applied with 1 professional per place of capacity in the MPRN, totaling a sample of 10 professionals. The results point to the very recent professional insertion of social workers in the MPRN, 50% are concursed and 45% have precarious ties, 80% social workers in the MP have a postgraduate degree, have decent wages and working conditions, but have a work's pace and  work's demand intense that make it difficult to properly analyze the actions taken. Faced with the emergency nature of daily demands, there is a risk of technical exacerbation and standardization of formalism, trapped in individualized, sectored and isolated actions. Thus, the social worker in the MPRN maintains a double linkage of his practice, the first with the institutionally required demands - mostly of individual character - and the second, in search of commitment to the realization of collective rights of segments of the population recipient of professional actions. In this sense, the challenge of building and specifying the roles and competencies of social workers in the MPRN continues, but Social Work in the institution lives a rich moment of reflection on such exercise, discussing its limits and possibilities of acting through a Working Group (WG) to this end,  being is an important initiative. In this sense, this dissertation is also part of this effort to contribute to the reflection on professional practice and the strengthening of Social Work within the scope of the MPRN.
