he thesis project presented here has as its central category of analysis the human needs discussed from the contribution of the Hungarian philosopher Agnes Heller. The justification of the above study relates to the fact that, despite being significantly used, Heller's scientific production regarding human needs is still a field of unknowns in the theoretical production of Social Work. In this sense, we question Agnes Heller's contribution to human needs and how the category of radical needs falls into the Hellerian debate, trying to identify whether it is possible to articulate the debate on human and radical needs from Heller to the Marxian theoretical framework. We infer that Heller's work on human needs is associated with the influences that were present in the youthful writings of Marx and Lukacs. Moreover, as we see it, Heller begins to move away from the Marxian theoretical approach even before leaving Hungary. Therefore, we think that even in 1970, she began to realize a transit of thought that would gradually lead her away from “her Marx”. Therefore, with this study we aim in general to analyze human needs from the contribution of Agnes Heller, specifically analyzing the context, composition and importance of the Budapest School; addressing the life and work of Agnes Heller until the early 1980s; and discussing his main work on the subject, Theory of Needs in Marx, problematizing the debate on the category of Radical Needs. This work is linked to the method of the dialectical critical strand in Marx. As for the methodological procedures we used the qualitative bibliographic research techniques, from the use of primary and secondary sources, through readings and records of materials available in electronic or physical copies.
