RESUMO:

This study aimed to analyze the particularities of women's unpaid productive and reproductive work in rural Brazil. That is, the totality of work which these women do free of charge, both in the sphere of production and domestic/reproduction. Theoretical assumptions are based on the Marxist tradition in dialogue with elaborations in the field of materialist feminism and feminist economics. Thus, we reflect on the consubstantiality of social relations of sex, race and social class, on the sexual division of labor, domestic work and care as a basis for the subordination and exploitation of women in capitalist-patriarchal-racist society. The empirical basis of our study was the microdata of the National Household Sample Survey - Continuous PNAD, conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE in 2018. From them we characterized the different forms of work performed by rural women: a) work in unpaid occupation; b) household chores; c) the work of people caring and; d) work for their own consumption, considering different variables such as color or race, age and educational level. The result evidenced the significant permanence of women in productive and reproductive unpaid activities. Men and women participate in productive / domestic work, but women remain the majority responsible for this type of work. Men's participation obeys a hierarchy in the types of tasks they perform. Reproductive / domestic work reaffirms itself as an almost unbreakable cycle, as a practice that cuts through different generations of women. The condition of rural women as doubly unpaid workers challenges us to deepen our reflection on the process of subordination and exploitation that they experience in their daily lives.
