This study seeks to analyze the incorporation of the Social Determination of Health  perspective (PDSS) by the Social Service (SS) in the hospital network of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), problematizing its appropriation in the theoretical-practical mediations, from evidence of its incorporation in the Social Interview, considered the technical-operative instrument most used in professional daily life. It is based on the premise that the PDSS places the struggle for health in the context of the class struggle around the Brazilian Sanitary Reform Project (PRSB) linked to a social transformation project, which has a strong affinity with the social Social Policy Project (PEP). However, this perspective has been widely used as a synonym for the conceptual model of Social Determinants of Health (DSS) undertaken by the World Health Organization (WHO). We share the conception that the appropriation of the conceptual model of DSS and the ideological direction of the PDSS point to different societal and sanitary projects, and the incorporation of the DSS as a synonym of the PDSS within the scope of the category was due to the absence of incorporation of the classic theses of the Sanitary Reform by the SS, resulting in a theoretical-conceptual distance that rebutts in the theoretical-practical mediations of the category, which do not intend at the level of Social Determination, as well as starting from the assumption that the actual realization of the PEP in the field of health is conditional the incorporation of this debate. Our hypothesis is that the fragile appropriation of the PDSS in our academic productions, in the current context of counterreformation, tends to be reflected in the field of instrumentality, which in turn focuses on the technical-operative instruments used in professional daily life. In these terms, we chose documentary research of the analytical and qualitative type, through the analysis of the contents of social interviews, taking as a locus the hospital network of UFRN, which is constituted by Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL), Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco (MEJC), and Ana Bezerra University Hospital (HUAB), both under the management of the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (EBSERH). Our main objective is to understand if the PDSS and, consequently, the PRSB, is being expressed in the technical-operative instruments and, therefore, incorporated to the theoretical-practical mediations of the SS in the current context of counter-reform, in the reality of the UFRN Hospitals. Data collection will take place through the use of bibliographic and documentary research techniques, prioritizing the analysis of the social interview as a privileged instrument of SS work in the hospital context, based on the dialectical historical materialism and the inherent dialectical reasoning. Thus, we will seek to understand the mobilized teleological capacity and reflect on the professional objectives, articulating the different dimensions of the work, to identify the perspective that has based these interviews, making possible analytical inferences about the object studied, considering that the debate on the social and the roots of social inequalities in the PEP have the potential to provide fertile ground for the appropriation of the PDSS as long as it is anchored in a secure domain of the foundations of the PEP and the PRSB. In this methodological way, the data collected will be systematized through the technique of content analysis, mediated by the PDSS and critical social theory.
