RESUMO:

The present study is inserted into the search line of State, social policies, society and rights, of graduate program in Social work at the University of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Performs an analysis of the professional practice of social workers who work in social childcare services for children and adolescents, on the particularity of the municipality of Natal, locus of empirical research. Considering in those occupational spaces are embodied different expressions of social issues in questions of care situation. The professional practice has characteristics that demand new needs, new ways of understanding and involvement of social workers within childcare services. The study set out to identify and analyse the demands made to the Social Service and the answers of the Professional category in institutional childcare services, within the mark of socio-political projects in contemporary brazilian society clash. It was made in a dialectical critical analysis, under the theoretical basic quantitative methodological approach, having as presupposition the care condition to children and adolescents in their social, legal and historical dimensions that guide the theme, conveyed through the professional practice of social worker. Are analyzed the current contours of the demands presented today to the Social Service, forged in the recent framework of relations between the State and society in the country, which acquire distinct peculiarity. Underscoring what hides behind these relationships, the contradictions and dilemmas for which the professional exercise takes in childcare services: discusses the relation between social demands and social needs in capitalist society, which merge into the face of private Social Service determinations and the change in terms of the demands, the users, of the values, the criteria, corporate standards, requests and working conditions. The route established between knowledge and reality approached and demanded necessary mediations between the critical analyzed empirically researched and theoretical references from the concepts of Social demands, Social Issues, Social Rights, the professional practice in childcare services to children and adolescents. Besides the bibliographical research and documentation providing an approximation of reality research, we did semistructured interviews with 9 (nine) social workers members of technical teams in childcare services Casa de Passagem I, II and III in Natal/RN. The results of the analysis carried out shows that are created new demands that require other responses of the profession, making the profession organized within these responses.
