RESUMO:

This is a Masters project which has the Sociability Concentration Area, Social Work and Social Policy and as a Research Line the Social Service, Labor and Social Issues. It addresses the worker health in the framework of exploitation and degradation of labor organization in a contemporary context of financial crisis and counter reform of the Brazilian state. Its central objective is to analyze the health absences in SIASS-UFRN unit, in order to contribute to identify the social determinants of health by the multidisciplinary team. It presents the following specific objectives: identify the individual social determinants and the conditions of life and work of the public workers in health leaves to recognize the most vulnerable profiles to illness; give visibility to the social determinants of the health-disease in the public servers that affects the health absences, with a view to coping with situations of risk to workers' health; highlight the pathologies acquired / aggravated at work, in order to establish relationship with the leaves; and to identify the understanding of the staff about the importance of social determinants of health in professional work with the licensed public servers, in order to qualify the work processes in which the social worker is inserted. The study is based by the centrality of the working class present in the Marxist tradition and by the metamorphosis of the world of work in a neoliberal context of productive restructuring of capital and shrinking role of the state in the face of social policies. This situation affects dramatically on the worker´s health, here analyzed from an expanded concept of health, as a field of public health that considers the social determination of life and work conditions in the health-disease process. As methodological procedures, it proposes a bibliographical research, documentary and field, with the help of semi-structured interviews to be held with the professionals who compose the multidisciplinary team of service. The work aims to contribute to the theoretical accumulation of the theme and to the qualification of the professional practice of those who act in the field of occupational health, in a perspective of reaffirmation and consolidation of the precepts of the Brazilian health reform. Moreover, it can support institutional policies for the promotion and the prevention of occupational health in UFRN.
